Hey all,

So I was working on some of my IC bolts with my MAF out nearby and accidentally smacked the lower honeycomb with the back end of my wrench. Guess that shows I should work a little cleaner....Anyway,6 it bent it up in a few spots pretty good. I gather we can't replace these, and I would REALLY hate to have to buy a whole new maf because of this.

I think I might be able to (with patience.....) bend them back and maybe use an allen wrench to straighten them out. What do you all think? Will the car run like garbage with the bent fins?

Thanks!

Hi. I have read mixed reviews on the handy dandy search function here on DSM tuners. I don't see how removing it could affect the MAF side of things, but then again.......people have bad experiences with idle surge etc.

Have you done this to yours?

Yes I have done this to my 1g mass, when I was bone stock,no idle problems or surges at all,I even passed emissions with the lower section removed LOL

Hmm ok thank you for the information! I went ahead and yanked the silencer out of the bottom while I was in there and just put it back in with the bent up fins. It seems to be just fine that way as well. Maybe I'll yank it out later on.

Now, i have a smoking issue out the exhaust :( It did this a week or so ago, and after I changed the oil (which was WAAAY too full for some reason) and cleaned out the turbo oil drain pipe, and took it out for a spin, the smoke stopped completely. No smoke under boost, none idling, and none just cruising. Completely clear. Now for some reason, it has come back......I'm leaning toward rings at this point

Time to do a compression test.......

Thanks again for the info!

Thanks for the input FWDMaster. I did a compression test and results were less than satisfying. But onto the topic at hand.

I went ahead and removed the silencer/metal ring at the bottom and left it with the bent up fins on the bottom honeycomb. It ran great. No problems whatsoever, so your probably right. Wouldn't make a lick of difference.

Thanks!
