Recently picked up what I thought was an exact match for my ailing ECU. I questioned the different part # (MD309947/E2T61674) out of a TSI, and was told they were good to go. I installed and car started right up but idle is low. I know idle can be adjusted, but is it a result of different ECU? Original ECU is MD312464/E2T61672. I just want to know before I start chasing the idle issue.

I am pretty sure that any 2 gen ecu will work with any 2 gen. I believe the only problem that you would run in to would be if you had a 97-99 then you would have to invert your cas by swapping plugs. Since you already have a 95 everything should be kosher.

Thanks for the reply. The more I think about it and drive it, maybe the idle isn't too low. I'm judging it before the ECU took a dump. I'm probably just over thinking it, it ran fine on a short run with all gauges looking good.

Idle might be low at first because it has been unpowered and needs to "learn." Drive it around for a day and see if it gets better.

Btw, if you use a 95 eprom ecu on a later generation car or vice versa, you would need to swap plugs and invert cas. The fact that your car started up without doing any of the above means the ecu is the correct one.
