Hey guys,
I just bought a 96 GSX, and im having a slight problem with the gas pedal. When you press on it there is a ton of resistance. Its harder to push in the gas than it is the breaks, and the wierdest part is, that when the car isnt running and you push the gas all the way down, it sounds hydraulic much like the breaks do. (sounds like your stepping on an air bag.) when i pop the hood and open the throttle everything seems fine...so i kno it isnt the throttle cable. I havnt really had too much time to look at it, but i was wondering if there is such a thing as a hydraulic gas pedal? and if not, what else would cause something like that? Thx./

The best way to diagnose this is to turn the throttle body by hand, than unhook the cable from the pedal and press it down. The throttle body should have a very light amount of resistance from the spring, the pedal should have close to no resistance. If both of those seem normal, the problem is with your throttle cable.

I did open the throttle by hand, and there was very little resistance, and wuts with the sound the pedal makes?

I myself am having the same problem with my gst. I would say try removing the throttle cable and re-installing it or just re-adjust it, it's probably too tight. Also try spraying some wd-40 on the line as well that goes through the firewall.

You probably have debris in your cable housing or a damaged/worn cable.

1) Check the cable down by your foot. Is it covered in dust bunnies. Clean it off and get some WD40 or something on it.

2) It's a good time to adjust your cables for slack. You might need to adjust the cable at the intake mani and at the cruise box.

3) Put some oil on the shaft in the cruise box too and make sure it's clean.

4) If you can't fix it replace the cable(s).

Hope this helps good luck

I had one kink up on me and seize up totally. Had to get another T-cable from the yard. This time, I shot "Tri-FLO" down the cable's sleeve to clean it out an really slick up things real good.

Not fun when a T-cable jams the throttle half way open - you immediately hit the key off when it does...and you just coast to a stop and get a tow home..

If you have a cable that snaps or seizes real good, you can prob hit a motorcycle shop and they can rebuild the cable for you by inserting a new length of cable then they solder new ends on the cable.
