ever since i bought my car it seems that sometimes its hard to press the gas pedal lightly. it seems to get stuck for awhile. it gets annoying cuz when i try to get in first gear, it gets stiff so i apply more press and when it finaly goes down it shoots my rpm up because of the force i applied to the pedal. any ideas why this is happening? i checked under the pedal and its a spring, i dont think thats it. maybe the cable perhaps? :dsm:

A friend of mine's 91 gst has the exact same problem. The gas pedal has about an inch or so of leeway and it's pretty much full throttle or no throttle. Kinda weird but I think it might actually be the spring. Try lubing up any cables and see if that works if not then my best guess is the spring.

The throttle stop screw is either missing or out too far.

Definately the problem. That's the WHOLE reason that screw is there, to keep the pedal from sticking closed. If the screw is still there, turn in clockwise just a hair, and see if that helps the problem. If not, turn it a hair more.

I just got the same problem. Can someone tell me where the throttle stop screw is? BTW, it is on a 95 GST if it matters.
Thanks
