i just recently put in a starter and had to disconnect the battery . the computer was reset because of this. i have since put in almost 300 miles on the car and i went to take it in to be inspected and they told me the computer isnt ready yet. anyone know how long it usually takes to be ready?

If all depends on how many drive cycles that it has had. Sometimes the inspectors will see that there hasn't been many drive cycles since the last reset and make you come back and re-test.

none of them were ready after all those miles. is there any way with a obd2 reader to tell if they are ready before i take it back in so i dont waste my time?

i have an extra ecu. are u saying i should take the car or the ecu itself to the dealer? sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but sometimes things need to be spelled out in order for me not to make a mistake and misunderstand what u are trying to get me to do .

the ecu thats in there is an earlier one thats not programmable and the one i have outside of the car is the one that comes in a black box. does any of this make a difference?

No problem, I was confused when I first had the problem also. If the extra ECU that you have is the original from your 99 GST and works, use it. The bug was fixed in the 99 model. I think the 99 ECU came in a black box. If you don't mind me asking why did you take it out and replace in with something else that is not an EPROM? The other method of fixing the issue is to take the whole car to the dealership and pay them to fix it. The will force the monitors to set to ready.
I hope this brought some clarity to the confusion. Also to answer another earlier question of yours, an OBD2 scanner will show you the status of your monitors.

When I first got the car I had an issue with the alternator wiring and 2as getting a code that cpuld have been a bad computer so I bought another to try out and never switched it back. Ill try switching it back again to the original computer and see what happens.

How many miles does it usually take to reset the computer so it can be read?

how do i tell if the computers are ready to be inspected? i have a scanner that i use to reset the check engine light . where in that scanners menu does it show if the ecu is ready or not? that way i dont waste my time taking it to be inspected and it still not be ready

There should be an option for readiness monitors. What cels are you throwing? Everytime you reset the codes, you're resetting the computer thus resetting the monitors.

On a side note, I've never seen your around considering how local you are.

I'll check the scanner for any kind of readines monitor menu .I checked this morning and don't remember seeing any such rhing.

Yeah I see you're in fishkill.i don't take the car out much.who do you take your car to to get worked on?

I do all the work myself. Isn't worth the bill taking it elsewhere haha. Worst case you can always take it to advanced / AutoZone. Their scanners should pick it up. My scanner goes through monitor by monitor then displays any current or pending cels. You can pass inspection with two monitors unready. Hell I just passed mine last week. No cat, o2 SIM, evap delete. All readiness monitors checked through fine. No Cels. To pass visual I welded in a "cat" testpipe and loomed the rear o2 sensor so it appeared to be connected. Thankfully, no sniffers are done in NYS.
