Resolved Replacing Power Transistor on 1G

Hey guys,

Going to try and tackle replacing the power transistor. Wanted some tips on the best way to get access to the part. From the way I'm looking at it, seems I have to remove the motor mount and cam gear cover in order to access the transistor? Also, if there is a how to thread on getting it done somewhere on the forum I would appreciate some guidance on how to find that info. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you looking at the right part? It's a simple remove and replace affair.

Agree'd with above. Bolts are 10mm (2 of them, as well as the electrical plug), install is opposite of removal.

Not sure on a 1g but my 2g it's literally right under the fuel rail , 2 bolts holding it down .

Very easy removal and installation while in the car. I have an extra one in my Center console .

Yes, with the larger connector plug.

Yeah looks like I have the right part. Maybe just located in different location on the 1G vs the 2G. Just want to know if theres a short cut to getting to the transistor or if I have to remove cam gear cover to access or not. Seems like I do, but wanted input from those who have already replaced it.

I grab all these out of the junk yard that I can find. Should be very easy even on a 1g

Been awhile since I owned a 1g but if I recall I removed the entire bracket. Its just two bolts and should be simple. Would take you longer to ask than to just go do it. This does not require a tutorial.

No, you don’t have to remove anything. I replaced it in the parking lot recently. Just the normal extensions and ratchet.
