Hey guys, I'm having a difficult time taking off my fuel filter on my car and I took a break to cool off so I don't do anything stupid. Do you folks have any ideas on how to properly replace a fuel filter?

Buy a flare wrench, if your not already using one. Are you having a problem with both the top and the bottom fitting? If you get the bottom one off you can just take the two little bolts out of the fuel rail and pull the fuel line with the filter still attached. Then put the fuel filter in a vise and break the top fitting free.

stuck mounting bolts or the lines?[DOUBLEPOST=1413565243][/DOUBLEPOST]

Exactly what I was going to suggest.

Ill buy some flare wrenches and see if that helps. And I'm just trying to take off the mounting bolts.

rofljerry Liquid wrench will be your best friend. haha just soak them for an hour or so. I'd normally say try heating them with a torch as a last ditch effort but it being the fuel filter that wouldn't be a wise idea.

I just replaced mine 2 days ago. Did you remove the battery tray and the bracket that supports it? Gives you better room. All you need is 2 19mm wrenches. Put one on the top bolt and the other just under that on filter. Pull each one the opposite way at the same time. I used this method for top and bottom. Worked great for me. Took maybe 30 minutes max. Mine was the original stock one so it was a little tight too.

There is a nut that's part of the bottom of the filter use a 19mm wrench to hold that and keep the filter from turning while while you use a line wrench to loosen the line on the bottom. Do the top the same way, hold the bottom with a 19mm wrench and then use another 19mm wrench or socket to loosen the banjo bolt. Remove the battery and tray for more room and depressurize the fuel system first. Make sure to replace the crush washers on the banjo bolt when you put it back together.

Make sure you check and double check for leaks after installing it and after a couple runs with new filter on. You might smell some gas while driving so dont freak out. More than likely its some spilled fuel from taking old one off. But make sure to check for leaks good.

I always find that the lower flare nut (inlet) is a bi***. Even with the battery and tray removed, there just is not a lot of room for that wrench. Next time, I'm going to try crows foot flare nut wrench with a long extension and a long breaker bar. Just a thought.

Everyone's already made good suggestions. I will say take your time and try not to get too fustrated, it will eventually turn and come off. I replaced my original oem one last year and it was a pain. I had to crawl on top of the front end. I had the hood off already.

Oh yea using a airtool on the top bolt while holding the filter top with a 19mm wrench worked great too. I wouldn't recommend using it to put lines back on to filter though. Could strip very easily.
