Ok so my clutch is finally giving out on me and has been for the past couple months but now its to the point where it slips all the time. 127,000 miles on it i cant complain. I'm not currently overly wealthy so my question is will a stock clutch replacement be ok or should i go with an act2100? I'm currently running a bigT28 turbo 3" turbo back exhaust, with that turbo obviously i wont be running anything over 340 if i ever get a tune but will a stock clutch hold 300hp? Also Ive been toying with the idea of selling the car so if I'm going to go that route then I think i would just get a stock replacement. But if the stock replacement is capable of holding 300hp I might hang on to the car. I dont have much time left because sooner or later the car just isn't going to move so I cant really wait and save up some more money at this time. Opinions please. Thanks

You can get a stock clutch from Autozone or the like for around $150 whereas an ACT 2100 is around $400. The stock clutch isnt going to hold that kind of power for very long but most of that will depend on how you drive it. If you are planning on selling it later there really isnt a point to spending the money on an ACT clutch. You likely wont get it back when selling it. On the other hand the Autozone clutch has a lifetime warranty so you could always get a new one for free after you burn it up, long as you dont mind doing the labor...

Personally, I would go with a stage 1 clutch. You can, however, get a Perfection Clutch set(O.E. specs) from Advanced for around 160. If you have hookups(i.e. someone who can get it at cost) you can easily pick it up for around 100. Its not exactly O.E. but having used these clutches for several cars including my own, I can say the quality is very close to O.E.
Another thing to think about is that with a stage 1 you'd probably want a new clutch fork and pivot ball and possibly a new flywheel. All these add up and the 400 dollar stage one is now 600.
I'm not sure what the O.E. clutch will hold as far as HP, but mine is holding just fine and although I don't have a dyno run yet, I estimate I'm pushing around 250-260.

Everything I've read and heard says a stock clutch is good to 250-275hp. Of course there are always factory freaks but thats what I've heard. In other words don't go with a stock replacement.

one thing i learned wilh clutches is that, in my past 3 talons, all trannys broke, they cannot handle bigger clutches, other than stock. my opinion, go with stock.

If you are going to upgrade your car anymore, i'd definitely suggest going to a "better" clutch setup, the stock pressure plate will not take the torque, and will start slipping, and eventually ruin the flywheel.
Also, be prepared to replace the flywheel if your car has some hard miles on it, my one car at 95K had some small microfractures starting, and that had a relatively easy life, and the other car had 155K of hard miles and the stock flywheel had some serious cracks in it.
ACT are nice clutches, so +1 for them.

If I was you I would go with the Centerforce Duel Friction Clutch. Its rated as a 2500lb. But it doesn't chatter like other aftermarket clutches. Also it feels exactly like stock. I did it an I love it. 6 puck style on one side an the other is full face. You end up getting the grabbing power of a 6 puck an the enguagment of a stock clutch. Kinda like a Twin Disk Clutch System But with out the price. Road Race Engineering's Eclipse Drivetrain Upgrades

thanks for all the great info guys. Just one other question, does anyone have any opinions on the ebay stage 1 clutches? are they junk or are they worth it? I'm very hesitant to buy from ebay but just wanted some opinions or if you've used them how did the perform for you?

Please. If you have no idea what you are talking about don't say anything.

My experience is always go bigger than what you think you'll need. If you think you'll need a "stage 1 blah blah" whatever the hell that means, then get a "stage 2".

I've gone with a Centerforce before and it crapped out on me. (search for Centerforce Clutch and see what happened)

I now have a Fidanza 4.3 6 puck, and I love it. It's rated for a little more than what I plan on putting down so it holds just fine. The 6 puck does not chatter enough to comment about it. It's absolutely fine.
