420A Replaced CV axles and now can’t shift through gears

I replaced both front axles, drained and refilled 2.1 qts for my 420a manual. Started up nice tried to shift gears but couldn’t. I noticed it can shift after multiple attempts but only to reverse or first but it grinds. Whenever I attempt to shift car slightly moved forward and stops. I purchased GSP axles from Rockauto part numbers are NCV12541(Driver) and NCV12530(Passenger). It went in pretty smooth and tried to do more pushes but it sounded like it bottomed out so I didn’t wanna damage anything. Would like some info as to why it’s doing this

Axles are not seated. Push harder

I would pull it back out and have a look at the splines to make sure they haven't sheared off. It definitely isn't seated. You can put some axle grease on the clip to make installation easier.

I pushed and slammed it in. Sounds like I’ve hit the very end of it. Still continue to push harder?

When its flush with the trans its in. Shouldn't be a big deal. Yiu dint have to pound it in. It goes until the clip seats.

Hmm okay I’ll double check again thank you. It’s just sounds concerning that any more push it sounds like I’m hitting the end of the transmission or bearing.

Its not possible to go too far. Its kind of a go no go thing.
