Anyone have any tips on this?

I searched but only found people with 420 rusted bolt problems.

I need to know how to do this without any air tools. I'm really spinning my wheels on this. :sneaky:

They don't use 4 little 10mm bolts like 2Gs? Crank bolt should not need to come out, but I don't have a 1st gen so I'm not 100%.

1gs, but you have a 1g 7 bolt, so I'm not sure. I think have 4 12mm bolts that hold the pulley on, put a half inch breaker bar in the center bolt and position it against the ground, then just untighten 'em. This is really simple. If you are wanting the crank gear off. You can do like dude said about bumping the starter or use the special tool and attach it to the crank gear where the crank pulley bolts and loosen the center bolt with a half inch breaker bar.

Damn, I don't know why I didn't think of this. And yes. I only want to remove the 4 12mm bolts in order to remove the lower timing belt cover and undo the timing belt components for a cylinder head removal.

I'll want to position the breaker bar at an angle (diagonal toward the ground, going to the rear of car) to be "tightening" the main pulley bolt, correct?

No, I know that. What I was asking about was whether or not it is important to make sure I don't somehow loosen the main pulley bolt while loosening the 4 smaller bolts.

Breaker bar to the rear for tightening, breaker bar to the front for loosening. This works for the pulley bolts and the cennter crank bolt.

That didn't work because the car is on stands and spins the other wheel.

Then have someone step on the brakes. You should be able to turn the wheel to the left and take the thing off while the car is on the ground. It's usually a VERY VERY easy removal and install.
