Trying to remove the head of my 96 and I have hit a road block here's what I have removed
power steering pump and belt,
pulled timing belt off the exhaust and intake cam
the alternator belt

drained the coolant and oil
removed intake
removed radiator hoses and turbo coolant lines
removed fuel rail and injectors and fuel line
removed radiator hoses and turbo hoses going to the throttle body
I know I have to take off the valve cover and head studs but I don't want to get ahead of myself but I would like some advice on steps of how to finish it.

You have to pull off the valve cover, then remove the cams. Under the cams are the head bolts. Take those off and it will come off as long as the other things are out of the way. It might take a little work to get it off though.

You do not have to pull the cams, it gives you a bit more room.

If you pull the cams, just make sure you keep the cam caps in order.

Pull the harmonic balancer

Drop the timing belt

Drop the turbo, the mani can stay bolted to the head

Remove the intake cam gear, and remove cam sensor (If you have this set up)

when I tried to remove the harmonic balancer before when I had the motor mount off I dropped the motor down as far as it could go and I got it off but I couldn't get it out from the side wall in the wheel area. Any suggestions I am stumped

You have to take the center bolt out

I did and it was loose but the side wall had it blocked in even with the motor lowered all the way

If you remove the center bolt and all 4 outer bolts the harmonic balancer should literally fall right out of the engine bay.

I know ive taken them off other cars and it did that. The only possible thing I can think is maybe the other mounts are making the motor sit too close to the side wall cause it was clearly in an accident. But I took out the 4 12 m bolts and the center bolt. I could move it back and forth on the bolt its mounted on off the crank, but the motor is too far to the drivers side to get it out because ive never heard of this problem. Even with the jack removed and he driver side mount off it wasn't low enough to clear the side of the bay

Don't forget the bracket on the back of the engine that connects between the bottom of the intake manifold and the block.

Did you try removing the front mount? You'd be able to drop it down even further.

edit: Forgot to mention that you should check and see if the ac compressor is hitting the side. Might be limiting how much you can lower the engine...
