remove crank shaft sprocket??

ok we have had our fun trying to get the thing off and managed to get the center bolt of by putting the car in 5th and prying it off. now we need to put the damn balance shaft on but we need to remove the crank sprocket in order to get the belt under the metal lip on it.

what is the best way to remove the damn sprocket we were thinking of trying a steering wheel puller but we are out of ideas, we are waiting overnight for some parts to be cleaned but how can we get the sucker off.

I used a harmonic balancer puller the other night for mine:

Put the crank shaft pulley(harmonic balancer) back on with the 4 12mm bolts and wiggle it back and forth while pullying. It takes a while but I have done it a few times like this.

I've done 4 timing belt jobs on these cars and never once taken the sprocket off to put the balance belt on. All you have to do is remove the crack shaft sensor (black plastic thing) and rotate the crank whatever way it needs to go in order to slip the belt behind it.

alright i'll give those a try, this shit pisses me off because i havnt had my car for over a week now and this little crap is holding me back, so thanks guys i'll let you know what i find out.

There's a difference between 6-bolt and 7-bolt balance shaft belts. 6-bolt belts you need to take the sprocket off.

O sorry about that...i thought it would be the same, atleast thats ONE good thing about the 7 bolt motor

Here's my noob question. How do you manage to get that bolt off if the engine is not in the car? There is nothing to stop the whole sprocket from moving and after all the stuff I've heard about timing and keeping timing marks lines up, I'm pretty wary of turning that sprocket with the timing belt off.

there is actually a tool for that. kind of like a spanner wrench with dowels that fit into the holes in the sprocket. i at work now...but if you have the manual it shows it under the engine overhaul section, plus has the part number.
