I just finished my manual shift knob installation on my automatic. Here's the thread...

I know all the people that wanted to do it were wondering how to relocate the overdrive switch.

You need a TWO-way toggle switch, that has 3 ports on the back. I used this one from radioshack...

Now, in order to get to the wires you need, you need to cut the wire from the harness (near the shifter base) that goes to the stock o/d switch. Once cut you will see 3 wires, one black, one red, and one yellow. Wire them to the switch like this...

I mounted the switch in place of the cigarette lighter because I never use it, and it's easy to get to. I actually like it better here.

Just curious, how is the three positions in the switch used?

Edit: Nevermind, it is a two position switch. My bad.

What is each color for? And I would take it black is ground???

Given the way he describes this, they are the wires from the existing switch and he's just showing how to reconnect them to this new switch.

Red is power, black is ground, and yellow is the solenoid in the transmission that activates/shifts into overdrive/4th gear. That is all this is doing.

All turbo auto DSMs have two solenoids that control the four gears. The sequence to shift into each gear is as follows.

1st - Both Solenoids On
2nd - Solenoid A off, solenoid B on
3rd - Both Solenoids off(this is why limp mode trans are stuck in 3rd or cars w/ dead TCUs are stuck in 3rd)
4th/OD - Solenoid A on, solenoid B off.

Figured some info for posterities sake wouldn't go amiss. You can also just install two toggle switches for a DIY "shift box" and just hook them up to each solenoid's wires and use the sequence I posted above to shift the trans yourself.
