over drive button

i got a 1990 plymouth laser RS NT w/cruise control and my overdrive button on the shift lever does not engage to stay on... is there any way to fix that?

Can you press the button and the O/D doesn't engage or is it the button itself won't depress

If you take the shifter apart there is a piece of plastic with a spring in it that locks the button in place. check that for your issue, but be careful not to break it as you take it apart.

i can push the button down and overdrive turns on and the transmission shifts, but the button will not stay depressed
