:cry: I have a 1996 Eagle Talon ESI with a standard transmission ... When I release the clutch the transmission engages slowly and vibrates as you increase RPM's .
Once you reach about 2,500 RPM's the Tranny seems to work normally ...
And when the motor is off .. the transmission will hold the car in place ... PLEASE HELP !!!!

The vibration sounds like a clutch/PP/flywheel problem.
 
I agree with absolute... def. an issue going on with the cluch. I suggest looking @, or having a shop look into, the flywheel bolts. assuming they are at the correct torque spec I'd say have the flywheel checked for balance and also to see if is has any cracks. Also when was the clutch changed laset? Did you check the lines going from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder and also check for fulcrum ball and shift fork if you do decided to remove the transmission. Although it's doughtful since you have a non turbo, since they aren't easily confuesed with the turbo cars, check to make sure you have the correct disc and that it's not missing any springs, that would make the vibration you posted about. let us know how you make out.

does the car shift into all 5 forward gears as well as reverse. maybe a little more detailed info would help, such as...

Milage since the clutch was changed. Was the flywheel resurfaced, Does it go into every gear (ie not a broken shift fork and stuck in gear), does the vibration come back after 2500? Like if you take the car to 6000 does it reappear? Any more details you can add will help us help u.
 
yes the car does go into every gear... and it is when the car is off that the trans holds...I havent had it up to 6000 rpms since this happened and i also suspect that this sis a stock clutch im dealin with. While i am not a real gearhead i also suspected a clutch or pressure plate issue... a big THANK YOU to all replies.. i will keep you posted and welcome any further comments

yes the car does go into every gear... and it is when the car is off that the trans holds...I havent had it up to 6000 rpms since this happened and i also suspect that this sis a stock clutch im dealin with. While i am not a real gearhead i also suspected a clutch or pressure plate issue... a big THANK YOU to all replies.. i will keep you posted and welcome any further comments

If the car is held by the trans when it's off and is in neutral, with the clutch pedal not depressed, then your issue may likely be in the trans, differential or axles. It could be that your clutch is shot as well, but I am going to predict you'll soon find another serious issue. I would definitely recommend not trying to see what it does at 6000rpm; -if it is your flywheel or clutch you could seriously hurt the engine, or even the rest of your car if the flywheel comes apart.
 
I've experienced the same symptoms from a sticking brake caliper. It fits what you're describing. If one, or more, of the calipers was sticking it would cause some resistance and the vehicle would shudder or vibrate until some speed was built up. It would also cause the vehicle to stay stationary when the transmission is in neutral.
 
An easy way to test for a seizing caliper would be to see if you rolled when the car was off and the clutch was in. If it did, you wouldn't be able to count it out, but it would be a less likely candidate.

Start with the easy things like the brakes and half shafts, then work your way on into the clutch and transmission. A broken axle will cause funky vibrations. My friend had a broken engine mount that caused his half shafts to bind up and gave him a real bad stutter off the line. There are lots of things this can be.

Another good test would be to put the front end up into the air and spin the wheels and tires both with the clutch in and the clutch out. If you're underneith and someone else is working the clutch it could give a lot more clues and it will be completely free to do.

It really doesn't sound safe enough for a 16 year old to be driving it at this point though, so I hope it's off the road or someone else is driving it ;)
