Hi guys, my car is an all-stock RS, but I'm going to start doing some mods to it. Right now I just use regular unleaded gas, but when should I start going up in the octane? After intake/exhaust, or beyond that? I don't want to screw up my engine ;) but I don't want to have to shell out more cash on fuel than I do now. I know, I'm a cheap bastage. :)

Heh, no prollem man. Im the same way. If my car acts just slightly different than normal, I piss. LOL. But you got nothing to worry about, your idle will be back to normal after your car has ran for a little bit. Glad I could help.

Just dont boost. That may cause problems.
Even the owner manual says 89 is fine if you HAVE TO use it... But i think it says dont drive it to hard or something.

89 isint going to hurt your motor. It will however lead to more timing being pulled my your ecu when you see added knock in the upper rpms. Stay out of boost and you will be fine.

Or go pick up some toluene

Well as long as the knock sensor and ecu are good, it will just make your car slower then normal and crappier gas mileage. I did it by accident a couple weeks ago. It was in the morning on the way to work and I wasn't all there.

Yeah it was noticeably slower and the gas mileage sucked on that tank.

So don't worry, you will burn that tank real quick anyway, then you can fill up on Premium.

Yeah these gas prices really do suck. And it could definitely get worse, with Iraq and now Iran doing the nuke thing.OMG

No this is not good for your car. Everyone says its ok but I dont believe it. I bought a 89 2.5 dodge shadow turbo. 3 different places said that the fuel injectors where bad or the fuel pump was going out because it would bog and not boost. My first fill up I put 91 octane in it and about half way down the tank the car started boosting and fixed itself. The lady that owned it before me ran 87 octane since the car was new. It took about 10 years for it to start running bad but it was all caused from low octane fuel. Never run low octane fuel in a turbo car.

Ya honestly don't complain if you live in the US. Like Daren said, we are paying a lot more for the same gas here in Canada. I dont complain because I love driving my car, but my little tempermental bi*** needs 94 octane. Last week I paid $54 CNDfor 47.5 litres which is 12.7 gallons.

I paid $65 once last summer when the prices were at their peak for a fill up & by the looks of it, we'll probably see those prices again this summer (if not more from what their saying). Its funny how they have the same shortage every spring/early summer when all the performance cars come out  . Like Dr1ftx3 said, not even we can complain as were still much cheeper the Europe.

As far as running the crappy gas, the ecu should "calibrate" itself for the lower octane fuel but you shouldn't be hard on it as you will knock like crazy while this happens. Just take it easy and put some real gas in it next fill up :thumb:

93 octane burns slower than 89 octane which can be better for a boosted engine. I def would not boost high with that gas.

It's a $1.30 a litre here for 94 octane fuel, but if you drive a turbo car you better get use to it. I don't even risk putting anything lower than 92 octane in my car, even if I was short on cash.

I was short on money so I only used 89 octane as opposed to the 93 i've been using for months.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually over here the next octane rating up from 89 to 93 is only $.10 increase. Usually when I fill up its around 13-14 gallons, so you are only saving $1.30-$1.40 by using the 89. To me that is not that much to even consider it and I would just take 1 gallon less of gas. To each his own though.:thumb:

Guys I am not sure cause I have never done this before but I put in about 4 gallons of regular fuel into my tank today. I am daily driving it right now and just forgot to put in premium. Please let me know if their is anything I can do or if it will mess up my car at all.

Should be fine, this topic has been beaten to death...:beatentodeath: . I would turn the boost down if you haven't already.

Thanks guys also to any mod that reads this I apologize for the topic of the thread I jsut saw I was warned about it and I assure you it won't happen again. Thanks boys

Fill her up with the highest octane gas you can and do not hit the boost. I bought a turbo 2.5 dodge shadow and 3 mechanics told the lady she needed a new fuel pump becuase the turbo would not spool. When I bought it I filled it with 91 octane and like 5 miles later the turbo opened up and she ran fine.

Somewhere on here there is a thread about the BS of octane boosters. Too lazy to find it right now.
