If I wanted 264/272 cams, but dont want to spend the money, can anyone tell me how much and what has to be done to the stock cams to make them of 264/272 specs? I mean exact numbers of grindage and such. thanks
-Shane

I don't' know the specs on the grinds, but ffwdconnection did a great job on the ones i bought and i don't think you cold have a machinist setup and do one set for you for less or the same as Darren would charge you for a set that's already done,

How much do they charge?

FFWD Connections site can be found here: DKS. $297

Also, you should check out Delta Camshaft: Delta Cam. They offer 264, 272, and 280 grinds. You can either get regrinds or pay a bit more and get new ones. I believe it was only like <$100 per cam to get them reground. Shoot them an email.

It's not going to do you any good if you running a stock turbo on stock boost and without tuning.

BTW - FFWD --> $297 not $279

its going into my other 6 bolt, im building it right now, getting springs and retainers, figuring out what to do about the cams, arp head/main studs arp rod bolts, new rings all new gaskets and seals 16g, ect.........so yha not stock.......

I think you might as well just go with Brian Crower cams, they are cheap and NOT regrinds.

Just curious, what's wrong with regrinds? Do you have any real information backing this?

Many grinder don't do proper heat treatment and rehardening. I guess if you want to go to regrinded cams you'll have to take a chance on how long they will maintain the degree specs.

After making that statement could you please let everyone know which grinders don't use proper heat treatment so we can avoid them? How do we know who uses proper heat treatment and who doesn't? First hand experience and some sort of proof would be great.

What you said is really just a vague statement as it stands. It honestly sounds like you're just quoting some vendor(s) who would like to scare people away from buying any other types of cams because they are somehow "inferior" or made using "inferior technology".

Unless you have some concrete evidence to back this statement up you are just adding to the mis-information on this forum.

WOW... is looks like VTEC_THIS is trying to find reasons for buying what he did buy!!

Erase the 'mis-informed' fact or opinion that I bought up based what I've heard. Heat treatment is a factor in regrinding metal.

Go right ahead and buy regrinded cams, but my suggestion is if you're looking to produce immense hp, which is the whole point of going to cams, don't buy them.

Do you honestly think most companies do not know what they are doing? They go to school for there jobs and because 1 person states that maybe 1 other company does not do it properly does not mean all reground cams are bad. Do not let them think for you clearly they learned they right way to do something, so of course someone else must have too.

Okay, well that's my opinion. It adds an additional factor to regrinded cams and I've learned that cheapness doesn't buy power the hard way.

1gDSM4g63 - You still haven't answered my questions regarding "heat treament" or "rehardening" for that matter. Can you please give us some solid information that proves your point.

Your opinion does NOT count as fact(s).

Yes, I currently use regrinds but I never made any statements regarding their quality. There are plenty of members on here, like yourself, who throw around their personal opinions as if they were facts all too often.

So there won't be any actual facts coming then, correct?

If we're done pissing now, the trouble I'd experienced with re-grinds for imports had been that the grinders were set up for lobe profiles meant for flat-lifter pushrod motors, and didn't have the means to grind for OHC geometries. And yes, I have seen regrinds go flat. I've also seen factory Ford 2.3 cams go flat.
These days, the former economic advantage to regrinds has been ground down by the number of aftermarket makers.

As for finding the specs for a grind, most cam shops will let you sleep with their wives before divulging their grind profiles.
