i got the paint at michaels crafts. Just any craft store should carry it. They have different colors, I wanted to go black, but didnt want to be too dark, and have trouble with the cops. But get the Krylon paint, And make sure it is "stained glass paint" so then the light can still shine through from the tails. good luck. thanks for the comments too guys

i used testors candy apple clearcoat on my 1g. same overall look though. (n/m the huge exhaust tip, its gone now thankfully)

After months of procrastination, I finally took the time to buy some paint and red out my tailights. I read of people using Krylon Stained Glass or Testors but every place I called didn't have either brand, only Michaels had the Krylon Stained Glass but they didn't have Red. Anyways I went to a RC Hobby Shop and they had this red that I thought I would try out. I tried it on my amber side markers and it came out nicely, so I decided to use it on the tails. Here are some pics, I only masked the back-up lights and the black portion of the center piece.

Couldn't get a digital camera so I used a camcorder to take stills.

Looks good. I might get around to blacking my center section and redding the tails.

Don't fotget to hit them up with some clearcoat to get some gloss on those.

Yeah I have some gloss but didn't feel like putting it on.

How hard was it to remove those tail lights. I've been thinking about doing mine pretty soon, however i dont want to leave them on the car.

Did you have to pull off the rear bumper or can you gain access to them from removing the interior trunk panels?

In the trunk there are two panels, one on each side that you can remove. You only have to remove those two little panels and then the big center panel, just pull on it from the bottom and it'll come out. The top portion of the center panel come out the same way. After you remove the panels, just get a 10mm socket (I used a deep socket) and remove all the nuts. I believe there are 21 in all, after that disconnect the white harnesses from both sides as well as the black harnesses which are towards the side nearest the quarter panel (the bulbs you do not need to remove). Should take at most 15min if you haven't did it before.

i would also like to know if you painted over the talon letters. and also, what kinda prep did you do to the lights?
