So I recently purchased a 99 spyder with around 140k miles and I'm not entirely sure what was done to it as far as maintenance so I'd like to know what I should change or inspect to possibly change. I've seen a lot of maintenance recommendations for 4G63s but nothing really for the 4G64. Also if there are any common problems or things to look out for with 4G64s. As of right now I dont plan to do any mods like running a turbo set up or strocker. Only really interested in making the car run more efficient, dont want to really sacrifice reliability. It is a manual by the way.

the same maintenance would apply, as it does for most cars

Timing belt kit every 60-100k miles (depends how brave u are)
coolant flush, t stat
spark plugs, stick with ngk coppers, every 15k
spark wires
fuel filter
clean/replace air filter
clean maf
oil changes 3-5k, I run castrol
trans oil change
flush ps, brake and clutch fluids every 2-3 years

lower control arm ball joints can fall out leaving you crashing to the ground and hopefully not a tree or wall.
I had it happen in a parking lot. (applies to all 2g eclipses)

so might want to get a front end kit, tie rods, upper and lower front and rear control arms, sway bar bushings and links.

I think that the 4g64 is a good motor though, more reliable than the 420a and less parts/heat/beating than the turbo 4g63. my friends had 220k before we rebuilt it.

Thanks for the info. I know the ball joints were changed recently but I'm still going to look into the kit. I bought a spyder gs because I heard the 4G64 was the most reliable hassle free 2g engine. Im hoping to get at least 250k out of mine.
