hey guys, quick question. i know all about how non-recirculating BOV's can mess up idle and most everything else in the long run. i have read almost every forum post about this because i would really like to get a HKS SSQV but they dont recirculate. so i was wondering if getting a non-recirculating BOV then going to a dyno place and getting it dyno-ed and tuned would make a difference... can the mechanics there tune fuel curves so the ECU does not expect that excess air?
thanks

I have an hks ssq and i drove it around for a couple of days without it recirc, until i got the kit. i have some upgrades so for some reason it wasnt giving me to many problems. you can make the hks recirculate. Either you can make your own, itll be common sense once you take out the cover off, or buy a kit. And for tweaking the ecu, you wont be able to do that without a standalone, when you go standalone, you can throw away your maf and have your mechanic tune all he wants, or you can get a translater, and a gm maf. but were you are now you really cant get a "mechanic" to tune anything, to tune you need a tuning device.

is this your dsm? if so please set your vehicle profile up to date it really helps.

Why don't you just buy a recirculation kit for the SSQV? I have one for mine and it works just fine. Pretty cheap, too.

alright, first of all thanks for the help. i know about the tuning software and everything, but i think it would take too long for me to learn all the logging and proper fuel adjustment and everything. that's why i would rather have someone do it for me. secondly, the HKS recirculation kit...i heard something about these and was tempted. however, does the BOV still sound pretty cool. i know the recirculation more or less eliminates the sound, and i know everyone in the performance related community here will be angry, but the BOV sound is one of the best things about getting off of school and having the kids waiting for the bus be introduced to my car :D

It seems you are more into the sound of the BOV... Don't let the sound get too far into your head... If you want do it right, forget about how cool the BOV sounds, get the kit and re-circulate the BOV...

It's prettymuch one or the other at your point of tuning.

You'll either have your cute little "PSSSSSSSSSHH" or you'll have a car that doesn't run rich whenever your BOV opens.

You can still hear it operating no problem, it's more of a quieter "Chuhh!" sound though. Hell, if you ever get hard IC piping everyone is going to hear the damn turbo spooling away anyways :p

Brute update your profile I'm from ALbq also well rio rancho if you have an awd there is no dyno around here. No matter how you tune the ecu doesnt like the unmetred air and I highly suggest you start learning to work on your car and know your dsm. Get a manual and a logger. To answer your q pretty much no. Good luck pm me there are some dsmers that hang out

well, i dont have a DSM yet, but i was planning on getting one spring 2006... i have been researching problems and solutions as well as possible mods just to make sure this is the kind of car i want. right now i have a 89 camry DOHC v6... but hopefully ill get a 95 GST or maybe a GSX...depends on what i can find

Ahhhhh I see now. Well you have quite some time to learn about these cars. But it seems like your more into the swshhhhh sound then go fast..I rather listen to the sound of my turbo then some sneezing sound. Good luck though

quick question, an safc doesnt allow u to tune so u can vent to the atmosphere rite?

Before we get more people passing around misinfo and asking questions that are answered elsewhere....

No, an S-AFC cannot offset the problems associated with venting to the atmosphere if you're using the factory MAF. You cannot use the factory MAF and still vent, period. At least, not correctly. Some people may not experience problems venting to the atmosphere. If you don't care about performance, go ahead and do it. It's considered the wrong thing to do, and only people who care about looking cool do it.

For more info on this, browse our FAQ forum, where all the BOV stuff is covered. Also do some keyword searches on "BOV venting atmosphere".
