i recently bought my 99 GS-T and the person who had previously owned it did a few engine mods. One of these mods would be a non-recirculating BOV and i am wondering if that would one, cause my car to run a bit rich and two, would this take away a bit of the power. i am new to the dsm game and to turbo cars period so any help would be greatly appreciated.:hellyeah:

Yes, it will definitely cause your car to run rich between shifts and when you let off the gas after boosting. It also can cause your car to always run rich if it leaks. If your car runs rich you are losing power. SO, yes and yes to your questions. Recirculate your BOV if you want performance and don't absolutely love the sound of a vented BOV. :thumb:

short answer, yes, it'll cause you to run rich between shifts. If you want to get the detailed info, go to the search button and type in recirculate BOV and you'll have a few days worth of reading material probably. You really should get the correct setup to vent, or get a BOV that you can recirculate (if that one can't) or recirculate your current one (if you can).

Do you know what kind of bov it is? and if not take a pic of it because you might be able to recirculate the one you have.

every bov can be recirculated. just go to the hardware store and get a hose to run between the intake, after the maf, and the bov. Sense the bov is obviously letting the air out, then it can just as easily be recollected, just have to find the right size for your bov, if you have another ride, you could take the bov off and just take it in with you to the store to find something that fits tight

Thats why im saying for spoolallday to take a pic of the bov so we can tell him if it can be recirculated.

This is false...
you cant recirculate the tial, some turboxs cant, some turbosmarts, samco sport cant, some perrins cant, and the apexi cant!!

sooo if you have any of those.... you either would want to get a GM MAF w/ MAFT, Convert to Speed Density, OR get a BOV that can be recirculated and do so!!
AND Blowing off in the atmosphere will cause you to loose spool between shifts!
Recirculating helps keep you turbo spooled inbetween shifts!

good luck man!

If you do end up recirculating the BOV. Reset your ecu so you long term fuel trims will come back to normal.. disconnect your ecu for about 5-10 minutes and you should be good..

+1 He just summed it all up.

Now all we need to know is which BOV he has so he can know if he can recirculate it or if he has to change it.

recirculated will help with performance, however if you want to stay with it vented to atmosphere you have to change you maf to a gm maf with translator. this will allow it to run correctly with the bov setup you have now.

thank you for the answers guys and as far as my BOV goes it cannot be recirculated. i am right now looking for a 1st gen bov to replace it with i will have to go look but the person who had it before me cared more about having the loudest bov around instead of the performance that this car can truly have so again i thank you very much for you answeres and if anyone has a good link or place i can get a 1st gen bov with a mounting kit for a 99 2g i would very much so appreciate it.

ebay is sometimes a good place to look for 1g bovs. you can also check out the classifieds on most dsm sites and sometimes you can strike up a pretty good deal on them.

Thats an RFL bov. They sound sweet but would be kind of hard to recirculate with it.

Im trying to figure out how to circulate my type rs right now...

....
