I have been working on my 99 gs completely stock all summer. The 420a was blowing white smoke so I have just replaced that with a factory rebuilt 420a engine. (o.e.) I am really wanting to boost the performance of this and i would like suggestions on what I should do other than a turbo kit since it is automatic and i do not want to pour 5gs into an auto car, but would not be fortunate enough to buy a turboed version. I have installed the aem cold air intake and taylor spark plugs but I simply have no clue as to what else I should install on my dsm. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Id say a new coil, header ,cat back . If you want to go further in depth than id say a set of cams crower 1's or crane 12's. Thats about all ya got without going turbo.
 
Well I have seriously considered going turbo but I just do not want any harm to be done to my basically knew engine and I was looking at the stage II hahn but ive been told the kit doesnt come with all the parts in order to keep my engine safe.
 
I ran 7psi for about 6 months on a stock bottom end with 137k on it, all you really need for a low boost set up is a turbo a manifold a downpipe a intercooler/piping and a fmu
 
Sell ## Gs with that new motor and find a inexpensive gst, gsx, tsi, or tsi awd. I had a 95 eclipse Rs and i had it turboed for about 2 months and with all the money i spent for the satisfaction of getting beat by stock gsx's, i sold that car and bought a gst. 7psi on a 420a is no where near the power and also is not as easy as tuning for 21 psi on a 4g63. ive learned.
 
Well the thing is you want to build up a 420a and dont let anyone discourage you from that, But they do have a point. With simple mods and cams,valves,etc you will spend quite a bit of money on upgrading a car that its motor cant stand sufficient power. I was in the same situation you were in, maybe even worst i had a spyder gs LOL and i tryed everything when i got done modding my car i barely got into the high 14's........ But then again its all what you want to do Track, Street, or show..? Back to your original question though you can rebuild the motor rods,pistons,etc and do a nitrous setup theres a guy who runs low 13's with an all motor setup on nitrous high 12's at his best....
 
I was in the same boat as you last summer. I had my gs for about 6 years and I finely got a motor rebuild. So I built it high compression like I'm sure yours is. So without a low compression forged piston and some high quality rods, pushing over say 10 psi of boost is a quick engine killer. So right now I'm going from natural to forced induction. There are some things that are relatively cheep to do so if you go either way it is fine. An intake manifold 60 mm throttle body catback. Headers and a intake are nice but if you go turbo they get replaced so it kind of sucks. If you decide early you can say a lot of money.
