Rebuilt engine question(non-DSM)

alright so someone offered me some money for my car which i might accept, and my friend has a 1995 monte carlo with the 3100? she says the motor only has about 150miles on it, new rings, oil and water pump, new crank, new bearings cylinder's honed, etc. if i were to buy this would i be able to just drive it? would i want to put more miles on it say, before i took it on the highway, or what?

I would take it REAL easy and change the oil as often as possible (nothing crazy) like every couple hundred miles or so(someone correct me if I'm wrong). Don't take it on the highway and don't floor it or do donuts or burnouts or nothing like that. Be real easy on the throttle.

Plain and simple: BABY THE CRAP out of it till it reach's about lets say 2,500-3,000?

Whaaaaaat?!? 2500-3000 miles? noooo waayyy..

drive it easy until 500 or so miles.. change the oil.. then give it some more gas and drive it pretty much however you want till 1000, then beat the piss out of it if you want.

It's hard to say, there's no "real" proven method or guideline on how to properly break in an engine. Some debate about taking it easy for several hundred/thousand miles and some advise you to drop the hammer on it from the get-go. Hard to say, you can speak to a reputable engine builder or machinist and ask for what success they have had using which outline methods. After a rebuild I break it in by warming it up to normal operating temps and head somewhere secluded where I can do 30mph-50mph pulls 10+ times. The objective is to apply a load to the engine for short periods of time and to thrust the piston rings against the cylinder wall with increased pressure which results in accelerated ring seating...which is what we're aiming for.

yeah i know about the 30-50s haha but i just found out last night after talking to her more, that her cousin was the one that rebuilt it, he's not certified and i've known him to do shotty work in the past,(I used to hang out with him back in the day) and it just worries me abit only having 150 on it haha, well my buddy has a 2G NA 5spd that i might check out, any opinions on the 420a as a daily?
