rebuilt block ruined. part out or sell whole

well long story short I had the engine block & head, along with the transmission rebuilt, and put in as much new parts as I could afford and it looks like my piston rings are not seating properly only after 400 miles or so. not sure what went wrong, I had separate companies rebuild everything.

so I'm probably going to start selling everything off. I was thinking it'd be somewhat faster to do a part out, along with bringing more money minus the time taking everything out and separated. the only thing is, I think I'm going to have to buy an engine hoist now since my friends one broke since the install of this engine..so I think they're about $300. not sure.

I think it'd take a lot longer to sell the car as a whole but it might be easier to get rid of the body that way.

If you don't want to deal with all of the trouble and don't mind getting less money for not having to deal with all of the trouble you should sell it as a whole. Someone will probably buy it so they can part it out and make a profit by doing that. If you have the time, though, I would say part it out.

You can get an engine hoist for under $150 almost anywhere these days, but before I advise to do that I'd like to know how you figured the rings were bad and who did the rebuild on the motor. Most likely should be under warranty.

Well if you check out my burning oil thread also here in the newb forum you'll see why basically. I had the head rebuilt by a legit company and the block by a local machine shop.
