I am rebuilding my 6-bolt and I am just thinking about using the N/T oil filter housing with no oil cooler. Does anyone see anything wrong with it?

Agreed. Turbo engines produce ALOT of heat and it needs to go somewhere, overheated oil breaks down, doesn't lubricate well, tends to coke in the turbo when you shut it off and it also puts alot more load on the radiator.

I'm not running an oil cooler right now, I talked with FFWD Connection about this and here's what they told me.

"...for just normal driving, an oil cooler is not needed, now if you're at high rpm's a lot then you should run one..."

Now here's my opinion, run one...I will be adding one when I get back home. Why? If you think about it, hot oil reduces the life of your oil seals and oil, case and point I just replaced my oil pump seal today, it was rock hard with just under 4k miles on it...

So take the time and find a place for one, it will lengthen the life of your whole engine...

I emailed FFWD regarding the forward facing oil filter housing. Here's the email:

Hey man! Long time-no hear bud.

Auto X now eh? Well, I must admit, we've never had someone use the bracket in a drag app and then change to AutoX.

If you must run a cooler, there isn't really any way for it to be converted. You would have to swap it out for a 90 bracket (which uses an external core).

If it was me, I wouldn't run a cooler regardless because turbo cars have been around a long time in AutoX and most haven't run a cooler either. I really question the need for it as well as "does it really do any good". Sure, it cools....but does it to the extent to see a *real* benefit for the trouble.

Since you're going to be a newbie to AutoX, I would see what you really need at this point instead of jumping right out and spending money/time frivolously.

If you need anymore help in the deal, then let me know!

I would re-think your plans and use an oil cooler
whats going to happen is. you will find yourself constantly putting a quart here and a quart there of oil in the car all the time! because the oil will evaporate because of the heat factor!! :|

except most people like to drive for more then a few minutes at a time, and not shift before 3k rpms

in my opinion, an oil cooler is one of those things you really need. and besides that, mine cost right around 100 bucks for the filter housing, lines, and cooler. rather spend 100 on an oil cooler and be safe then a thousand or more on an engine....
