First off, ive already done plenty of searches and checked vfaq, so i know it can be done.
My question is fairly simple, when i buy the rebuild kit for it, can i just order a 16g rebuild kit, even though its the GT model?

EXAMPLE: Turbo Rebuild Kit Genuine Mitsubishi TD05 TD06 16G 18G - eBay (item 270503671506 end time Jan-17-10 23:32:49 PST)

I got this turbo in a purchase with a 6 bolt long block and complete head for 250. So i wont cry if i cant use it, it would just be nice to.

And if you experts here dont mind, take a quick glance at these photos and let me know if you see a problem with the wheels, i dont see a problem and there is minimal shaft play, so im confident that a rebuild can be done. I hope...

you wheels look good, can you get any side angle views?

i am pretty sure it runs the same internals as a MHI 16g turbo you should be able to get a rebuild kit here Home great guys to work with -=)

I also am a little curious on this because I will be rebuilding my 16g as soon as my rebuild kit comes in the mail.

As far as the fins I see nothing wrong and with minimal shaft play, I see no reason it cant be done. The only thing I dont know is what the difference is between the Evo 3 16g and the Evo 3 gt. Any one have an idea?

I have the same turbo. I posted it in a thread the got merged with this one
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/57878-what-turbo-merged-turbo-id-50.html
Look at jusmx141's post, about half way down page 50 (which I think I linked correctly). If I understand him correctly it can be rebuilt with real parts. I most likely will just send him mine for rebuilding when the tax man comes:)

Well that answers it. Internals are the same:thumb: Can't wait to get mine rebuilt now

I'll order that MHI rebuild kit that i have linked above then, and try to mark the wheel and shaft to keep it in balance. thank you all.

these pics are for 'asrdave' as he requested.
EDIT: the markings on the fins in this first pic are not as bad as they look, nor are they from contact. they are not damaged, i looked them over closely, just a dry spot with no oil.

kazoo: thats a good question, and im not counting out that idea just yet. maybe i will have him re-build it for me. its just that I, among many other DSMers, scratch that, like most other people, would like to save money where ever i can. Im not one to skimp on essential things like this, so i have to weigh the option of saving 70 bucks and doing it myself. basically, is the 70 bucks to have it done right, worth the peace of mind instead of doing it myself. hmm, good question and ill sleep on that one. haha.

What happens if you mess something up? You'd could potentially be out a good bit more than $70. When something comes down to a very close price, for me to do it or have a pro do it, I will generally go with letting someone else do it (especially if they know what they are doing and I don't) ROFL

I just realized that he only lives about 45 mins away from me. I think i made a decision, go with him. Haha. Thanks for your input kazoo.
