rebuild parts

A rebuild kit usually has a gasket set, set of pistons and rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, timing belt, balance shaft bearings (if applicable), and expansion plugs. Depends I guess. What needs replaced?

Just like anything else, there are different levels of a rebuild.

Most basic rebuild kits are:

- Piston rings
- Main bearings
- Rod bearings
- All gaskets and seals, including valve seals

Of course that doesn't include replacement of many of the general wear items like the oil pump or any of the head parts.

A good rebuild would also include:

- Boring the block and installing oversized pistons to assure the bores are straight.
- Milling the block and head surfaces.
- Align-honing the main bearing caps to be sure the crank journals are perfectly straight and free of casting flaws.
- Full rebuild of the head, including replacement of all valves and guides. Most of the time the valve train equipment is left untouched, although replacing / upgrading the lifters is never a bad idea.
- New oil pump and front cover.

Once all of that is done, you pretty much have yourself a new engine aside from the block, crank, rods, and head casting....like the one I built for a customer last summer:

If you think a valve is bent, turn the engine over by hand to see if you can feel the valve hitting the piston at TDC. If you dont feel anything binding up do a compression test and go from there.

how much would it cost to have a 6 bolt rebuild like the one you did for your customer last summer? just checking prices

He's a friend so I sort-of gave him a deal.

I'm not at all interested in building engines for people I don't know- too much liability....not to mention the shipping cost and the annoyance of handling such a package. I'm sticking to rebuilding turbos.

ok then lemme ask this way, how much would it cost to have a rebuild like that done? i completely understand what youre saying, i wouldnt either LOL, good friend though!
