rebuild guide? rebuilding tranny alone.

Hey guys!

Well to start off i have a 95 eagle talon tsi non turbo. and its been sitting for a while. because my tranny has been outta wack and i haven't found a shop here in my town that doesn't want over $1,000 $1,600 to take care of my tranny. so i have buddies with tools, a air conditioned garage and plenty of time because schools out in a few days. And from what my buddies have been telling me my tranny shouldn't be that hard to work on. So for the experience and to learn how to do it myself to save money and learn. so im just looking for any advice, tips or even a possible guide for tranny rebuilding/checking.
hopefully its something easy because honestly the only thing thats wrong is that it feels like my gears arent in sync or just barley catching.

I'm interested in this as well. My 2nd gear synchro has gone south. Would like to just take care of it until the winter when I'm going to rip her out and send the tranny to a reputable rebuild shop for proper treatment.

Best bet would be to find a used, working one and swap it in, then tear apart your original transmission. I say this because its not as simple as taking it apart, cleaning it, putting it back together and BAM you have a reborn transmission (as I am currently finding this out); you will undoubtedly do something to eff your transmission up so you might as well have a backup so your downtime is minimal. Sure its going to cost more but its added insuraunce. Rebuild guides are in the Tutorial/VFAQ sections of the forums.

true, i just dont have the money to buy a used one. so im going to try to do it alone and if all else fails ill just scrape the whole thing and ride my fixie ftw.
