1G Rebuild a 1GA Wing Tail Light Cluster

I rebuilt my 1GA Eclipse wing tail light cluster, installing LEDs since all 3 original style bulbs were burnt out and it was generally dirty.

This isn't a major project but I just wanted to document the steps.

Here's the housing. It was removed from the wing and this will be a bench rebuild of this particular light housing.

These screws were the screws holding the light into the wing. They will be the first step to undo the light housing and the final step to reinstall. The electrical plug was fished through a hole near the middle of the hatch; you will need to unplug a connector on the under/inside part of the hatch which you will need to remove the hatch inside trim to access. This can be done with the wing still on the car or removed...

On the back, we see 2 screws holding the black bulb backing piece into the light housing.

Unscrew these and the black bulb housing should seperate from the light housing. You'll notice that there are some O-Rings and you'll have access to your bulbs now. In this case, the O-Rings are crusty and damaged and all 3 of the bulbs are burnt out.

I removed the crusty/damaged O-Rings with a pick tool...

Here are the O-Rings that seem to fit correctly for direct replacement:

I bought a 10 pack of 194 LED bulbs from Amazon to replace all of the various 194 bulbs throughout the car. I was expecting to use 4 and have used nearly all of them. I highly recommend not buying them a la carte from an auto parts store and just getting a bulk pack from Amazon due to the $$$ difference! (New O-Rings are installed...)

Clean up the housing mating surface if needed!

I washed this out, cleaned it, dried it out, etc... You can find various tutorials on polishing up plastic/hazy plastic light lenses but in this case, I just needed to get the dust out of... everywhere :D.

Reassemble in reverse... Note, the pigtail for this housing is on the (US) driver's side of the car! I'm not sure if this would be problematic to install the other way but I documented it so I could put it back together correctly!
