Reattach rear O2 sensor grommet?

After reading a ton of threads about replacing the rear O2 sensor, I still can't find what I'm looking for.

I pulled the rubber grommet that the rear O2 sensor wire goes through and now it won't stay back in. I just shove it up there but it keeps falling back down. How do I reattach it to the bottom of the car? I assumed I wouldn't need to add gasket sealer or anything or it would be difficult to remove in the future, but the white plastic on it doesn't look like it has any grooves or anything so I don't know how it stayed up there before pulling it.

Sure you didn't tear it in half?

Did you replace the whole sensor or what? Pics would help --

the white plastic piece has little tabs that lock in when you push it into the floor, it snaps in from under the carpet, then the grommet goes over the white plastic piece.

OK so I just pulled it from under the car and the grommet along with the plastic piece came off. So in order to get it back on, I have to separate the two then push it back up into the car, then snap the white part back down again and then the grommet?

I'll try and get a picture posted later tonight. I'm working on my car at a friend's and I don't have my computer with my Photobucket password.

So again, I assume I have to remove the center console and maybe the driver seat as per instructions I found on removing the O2 sensor? But first, somehow separate the plastic piece and rubber grommet?
