rear diff mounts

I got my bushings from Albert at DV/DT Fab. All three bushings were the same size which makes me wonder if the front bushing is the same as the ones in the subframe. Anyone ever try the front bushing in the subframe? I think it might work. Someone should look into that if you don't like the aluminum bushings.

You know i never saw anything about 2g cars busting rear end stuff until it happened to me. im reading this wishing i had known erlier i would have checked the bushings. I shattered the axel bearings from the diff twisting and pulling the axel apart then it broke the diff cover by cracking off the mounting ear. It's just a bad setup 1g is way stronger.

So, is there anymore news on this? I am really in need of these bushings or a solution. I left an Email to the Fab guys. I am waiting on a reply back to see if they sell them and how much. One of my bushings is just blown out completely. Please help!!!

I still have not found a satisfying fix. I've looked and talked to everyone and they apparently are just "not made." The shop wants me to go junk yard searching to find a whole subframe. This would be a solution, depending on how old the subframe out of the doner was. I really want some replacement urethane, press in type bushings. Anyone else have any creative suggestions?

Yea, I still have not found a viable solution yet with the exception of making your own urethane bushings. Been reading up on that and may try it. My fix was to park the car altogether and buy and STI =)

Have either of you guys tried to use the bushing for the front mount on the diff? As I stated above when I got the DV/DT aluminum bushings all three were the exact same size, which makes me think that it the front bushing would fit in the sub frame as well. I think it would be worth a shot if nobodys tried it. I would test them out but my aluminum ones are already installed and I know they will never need to be replaced again. For as many people that have had this problem its about time someone finds a solution.

the real solution:

Make yourself a billit aluminum diff cover. :thumb:

Ill let you guys know when its done

How would an aluminum diff cover help anything?

It is made from a solid block of 6061 aluminum and it is not machined down on the outside. Holes are drilled or taped where necessary and the aluminum block is mounted on the diff as a block.

Ok, now I am curious as to what you mean. Would you happen to have a diagram or something? I just can't picture this for some reason. Thanks.

it is made from a block of 8x8x1.75 in. aluminum the block is only machined down to clear the ring gear on the diff.

That's what I thought you were talking about, however, how does that fix the problem of a busted bushing? I must be missing something else. How is that project coming along?

as i said earlier in this thread you can fill your subframe mounts with 94a durometer urethane compound.

That is what I was planning on trying to do. I just didn't want to have car on jacks for a whole week waiting for it to cure. Looks like I've no choice.

As far as I know the front one is available.

Just to bring this thread back from the dead. The front bushing is available, sort of. It comes pressed into the cast mount for the front. If you had a good press I suppose you could buy three mounts and press out the bushings from 2 of them and press them into the subframe. You run the risk and probability of ruining the sleeve though. I just replaced mine this morning with a set of aluminum ones from Albert at DV/DT Fab. I am currently FWD awaiting a tune so I haven't heard the driveline noise everyone mentions yet.

How did you get DV/DT to make you one? I tried contacting them before and they said they no long make them. Also, you're saying that the front bushing is the same as the 2 rears, just with a sleeve?

I called him and he said he could make me a set if I sent him money. I PayPaled the money and he shipped them out.

All three bushings are the same, they are like motor mounts, rubber inserts with a metal sleeve. The sleeve is pressed into the subframe and into the front mount. If you had a quality press and a little skill you could press out the bushings from 2 spare mounts and put them into the subframe. I have no idea how expensive the mount is and I did not do it this way.

I hate to bring this back from the dead, but it is to help anyone out with this. I replaced them with the DVDT FAB ones and it was a little bit of a bi*** but they got in. Only problem I am having now is when I decellerate I hear a grinding or shaking noise frm the rear as if they are moving, but everything is tight back there. Oh and I dont hear anything when I am driving around normally or accelerating.

Apparently so. Man, I was probably one of the first folks out there trying to solve this problem. I couldn't get the aftermarket behind me then. I bought dv/dt fab bushings. I also had a custom set made out of some softer material. The noise is just UNBEARABLE. So...my set should be here this week. I'll have them installed next week. I'll give a review when I'm through.
