Hey everyone just wondering what brand and weight oil you guys are using for the rear diff and transfer case.

I'm thinking about using Royal Purple 75W-90 or 75W-140. Once I decide on weight I'll use the same oil for both the transfer and diff. Thanks.

i tend to use just 80w-90 gear lube, it depend on how you drive your car i guess, in my case i used it manily for drag racing and if it wasnt being drag raced it was being pushed to it limits, so i found that changing the gear lube every 3,000 miles works for me, i choose this because by the time my car reaches 3,000 miles there is already quite a bit of metal in the bottom of the cases. and for under 10 dollars i feel like it is worth it. i would use a synthetic lube if i had a "built" drive train that would hold up. :dsm:

I run 80 w amsoil.
My drivetrain is the only thing I havent killed so I think that says something.

Why are you opposed to synthetics in the drivetrain? I always thought it was okay to use syntheics. As long as they don't have a lot of additives and don't use GL 5 in the tranny things should go pretty well. GL-5 basically shortens the life of your syncros by half.

If you change it every 3k it could get expensive using synthetics. (depending on how long you drive it. Personally I use the RP Max Gear (75/90).

To the original question, I am using standard Redline 75-90W. Id recommend it of course, or shockproof for higher HP applications and more "spirited" driving.

Sort of true... GL-5 does eat brass synchros. However, if you're like a lot of people on here and manage to blow out synchros every 20-30k, you might actually be better off with a GL-5... Harder to *damage* synchros, so you come out ahead despite the higher "normal wear"...

I see your point, but I'm still a little skeptical of using GL5 fluid in the tranny. Any other thoughts or first hand experince on this?

BTW thanks for the input guys. Sounds like 75W90 is the way to go for both the transfer case as well as rear diff. Even though the manual doesn't call for 75W90 in the rear diff. But hey what does Mitsu know any ways

First hand experience. I have had the Heavyweight Shockproof in both my DSM and MR2 trannys for the past few years...
