I don't know if this is a common issue or not but on my 91's rear bumper the black center trim was turning yellow in several places. It looked pretty bad so I decided to fix it. Keep in mind that this is just a quick fix, not meant to be a permanent solution. I am planning on getting the body work and paint professionally done in the next year or three. However I think it turned out great and should last for a while.
This is what it looked like before:
The first thing I did was clean the bumper and surrounding area. Then I removed the side marker lights. Next I lightly sanded the black center trim to smooth out the exposed yellow areas and rough up the rest of the trim for painting. Then I washed the area again. Once everything was clean, I taped it all up. The prep process took about 45 minutes, which was not as long as I was expecting.
With the prep process complete I started painting. I had some gloss black Krylon Fusion already so I gave it a try, even though I knew gloss would be too... well glossy. Sure enough it was so I went out and got some Satin Black which matched very well with the rest of the center trim. I applied 3-4 coats and let it dry over night.
Once I pulled all the tape off I was very impressed with how it turned out. It looks way better than the exposed yellow did.
