Okay guys, when I first start the car it sounds normal, no worries.. but when I press the gas there is this un-godfull screeching(sp) noise, it sounds nasty. I was thinking it was my belts, but I dunno. It only makes this noise for about 2-3 minutes then it goes away. If I boost right after I start the car the noise quiets down, but it still ticks and makes an odd squeal. I just got a used 14b about 2 months ago, it didn't really have any shaft play but now I am thinking maybe the turbine is hitting the housing and it is making that noise. What should I do guys? Any help would be great.

mine does the same thing, well i started noticing it more 2 weeks ago, today my waterpump blew and started leaking like a moe foe, not to scared u it might not be related but could be somewhere to check for leaks

When I start my car up in the morning sometimes it will have the same ungodly loud screeching noise; it sounds like it's near the belt area. Mine only lasts like 10 seconds or so, but one time it did that and the car started idling around 250rpm, WAY low. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

I also have the same problem. Mine goes away once I spool the turbo when driving. I asked about it before on this forum and only thing they said was. "ARE YOU SURE IT'S NOT A BELT". I definately think its the turbo.. Mine doesn't just do it when its cold out but everytime i start my car. My car only has 46k on it..

Well..I have a N/T Eclipse and I def. have the exact same problem. (So it must not be the turbo) I thought it might be the serpentine belt, but im not to sure.

Someone anyone has to have an answer for this common problem.

Does noone have any clue about this? My car had new belts put on it right before I bought it a couple months ago...

I'm so surprised that no one really has an answer to this problem..it's been posted a bunch of times with no real answer ever to solve the problem. It seems like such a common problem i figured someone would have an answer to it.

I had that problem on my '96 RS back in '99.. it was the starter and it had to be replaced. That might not be the problem for you guys, but it'll give ya one more thing to rule out.

try your accessory drive belts. you should have 3 if you have ac. your ac, power steering, and alternator belts could all be loose. even new belts can make noise. the best way to adjust them is by feel. take your hand and tug on the belts. it should deflect (move)about 10mm when set to the right tension. lucky for you, you don't have to guess if it is tight enough or not. start your car and see if it squeaks. if it still does adjust it a bit tighter. ONLY a little bit at a time. get you belts too tight and you could ruin bearings in components. you may get them to stop squeaking for the moment but later on they squeak when it's a bit colder outside, or when first you first start your car. don't worry, just adjust your belts a bit tighter. you don't have to do it all in one day. it may take you a week to get it just right. just anytime it starts squeaking, make an adjustment later that night or something. sooner or later you'll get it right. better to do it that way and know for sure they are not too tight.

Hey everyone, I had just recently done a turbo swap, and I was lookin' around the engine bay, and I realized that one of the bolts on my exhaust mani was loose, I put some torque on it and now I dont have any odd sounds at all. I could have swore it was a belt or even the turbo, but sure enough it was the mani, so maybe you all should check to make sure all your bolts are torqued down well. Just a thought.

Can someone give me a hand in telling me where all the belts are in my 95 GS. I'm trying to solve the problem mentioned in this thread, and Im trying to locate the 3? belts in my car..I've found the obvious serp.belt and another, much smaller one, near the firewall on the passanger side. Any help would be great.

Thanks

tensioner pulley, squeals when bearings wear out. See pic, all belts are there too.

power steering belt, waterpump pulley.
alternator belt, waterpump pulley, crank pulley
a/c belt, tensioner pulley, crank pulley.

I had the same problem with my 98 gst . you may want to check out the belt tention and try to adjust it acording. I did this but the problem seemed to come back after a while. even when i baught a oem belt from the mitsu stealer the noise came back. what i found to work was a a belt from auto zone. i took the old one there and had them get one that was slightly smaller for me. Worked like a charm an have had no further squeeking issues.
hope this helps.

Most likely your belts are a bit loose, just tight em and you should be okay...also if water touches it, it might squeek a bit. Nothing big to worry about...If is happening every time you turn on your car then just needs to be tighten.
btw your turbo is fine. Has nothing to do with your turbo

Mine was doing the same thing and it was the idler pulley on the air conditioning compressor.

This problem is probably 95% of the time belt related. Anyone who has this problem, while rolling, go to a corner, turn the wheel all the way to either side, if you hear the screeching then, it is your Powersteering/AC belt. If not then, check all of your belts by grabbing the center of them(1/2 inbetween 2 pulleys) and see how much up and down play they have, I believe standard is 1/2 an inch.

i had kinda the same problem and im pretty sure it was solved by replacing the tensioner...(havent driven the talon in a while... dont remember if it ever was solved...)

To test, remove alternator belt and start/drive the car under same conditions as when it normally squeeks.
Don't drive too long, it will drain the battery and the car will die.

My car screached and hissed a while back too. I thought it could have been one of the belts. But when i checked them, they were alright. So i started it, let it from for a little bit and looked under the hood, and behold. One of my radiator hoses had busted. So i say just start your car, pop the hood, and look in there and try to poin point exactly where the noise is coming from.
