Noise after starting...Starter?

When I start my car I can hear a grinding/scratching noise after the motor is running. It sounds like it could be the starter not fully disengaging or something else scratching. I think I have a master slave issue also because the clutch pedal doesn't fully disengage it seems. After the car is running a while and I shift a couple of times the clutch pedal will spring out and be at full pressure.

The car is bone stock with about 120k on it and I'm almost positive it's the original clutch.

I plan on changing the clutch and getting the tranny looked at here in the next few weeks anyways I just didn't know what I should do about the spinning/scratching sound that happens right after the car starts.

Being more specific would help alot, so I have a few questions to get ya started.

How long does it occur.
Hot start/cold start/everystart?
General area, get someone to start it for you, and go listen.
Ever occur in a no start situation?
Video perhaps?

As for the clutch issue, do you feel they're related? Check under the dash and see is any fluid is leaking past the seal. Go look at the slave, pull the boot back, is there fluid in there? Do you ever have to add fluid to the master? And have you attempted to bleed the system ever?

A worn clutch should not make the pedal feel mushy for a couple engagements.

As soon as you stop cranking if it sounds like a bird freaking out then it might be the bearings/bushings in the starter. As the starter motor slows it wobbles and makes a loud fluttering screech.

^ I had a lady ask me if I would stop and let the bird under my hood out once. Still haven't replaced that damn thing.

As far as the clutch pedal issue I don't think they are related but I know it's something I need to address.

This isn't a daily driver it's a bone stock soccer mom ride I bought because I couldn't pass it up. I just put a new battery in it today(it's been in the garage untouched for 3 months) and it fired right up and made that noise. It made the noise when I was driving it every few days also so I know it's something that's going to progressively get worse.

I haven't bled the system yet or changed fluids. It's on my list of things to do but I am going to be changing the clutch very soon anyways so I figured I'd do it at the same time.

You'll have to replace the starter as far as i know.

And I would also wait till i replaced the clutch to take of that.

Thanks that's what i'm going to do. I may have the transmission freshened up at the same time. Just do it all at once.
