WTF Do you mean like a "no lift shift"? Do you know how to drive an M/T car? You should probably search harder or ask an old man how to drive a car. I'm not even going to justify an answer for this question. It's just ridiculous.

How to drive a M/T: Release gas > clutch in > shift > clutch out > gas....WALAAAAAAA

i know how to drive manual i have a automatic rs-t. my question is is it ok for me to release the gas pedal once in a while or bfor the car shift to 2nd and 3rd gear without braking my transmission.

and yes i do know how to drive a manual car and did you read what i said, i said AUTO it means automatic rs-t duh.

If it's an auto, why the hell are you asking about shifting? USE DETAILS when asking ridiculous questions. I'm going to "think outside the box" and GUESS that your shifting using the LEVER, and it DOES NOT MATTER since your car is an AUTO. I thought that was just common sense. When's the last time you heard someone breaking an auto tranny doing that? I could understand if you were throwing it in and out of reverse and drive like you would IF you had an M/T.

I'm just :barf: that this was a serious question. Well lucky you I was bored.

BTW it would make "sense" to drive the awd in the winter.......

i

i know but my gsx is my baby there's no way in hell that the snow is going to touch that baby. hehe

no, keep it in D and just drive it that way. it wouldnt matter if you were on the gas or not because your transmission is going to shift either way. it makes more sense to keep the pedal down and keep the turbo spooled.

i never had a automatic turbo. it just that sometimes i release the pedal bfor the gear goes to 2nd and bfor it goes to 3rd and 4rt. what i do is release and floor it and then release again. am just wondering if will it hurt my transmission by doing that? that's the question. sorry for missunderstanding.

he could be asking one of 2 things:

1: Hes asking if he manually shifts his automantic like from 1-2-3-D and if it's ok to let go of the gas while he shift from 1 to 2, 3 to 4.... I don't see the point in that....

2: He want to know if its ok to let go of the gas when he presses the pedal to the floor for a while then lets go and quickly press the pedal again. this kinda makes the transmission downshift/upshift at slow speeds

come on we automatic guys knoe how it is if you trie to floor it with auto transmission on a dead stop LOL, slow as hell; but if you let go of the gas after a few seconds after taking off you sometimes great sum great pulls right??

Thats my lucky guess on what I think this kid is asking

thank you....

So... do they have any kind of education system in Illinois? If i have deciphered your post correctly you wish to shift gears in an auto 420a. I believe the rev limiter is set somewhere around 6500 rpms, and for good reason the A604 sucks. It just cant handle the strain of the extra power from the turbo and you driving it like a 16 year old Honda owner. Its an automatic so put it in drive and let it shift itself, if you want a faster transmission swap one out of a cloud car.

I think the behavior this kid is describing is BAD for the tranny. Are you getting on the car, and then letting off before it shifts at like 5000-6000k? If so then yes you are wearing on the tranny. Heres why:

The torque converter is like the clutch for an auto. When you are romping on the car it creates a forward momentum. IF you let off the gas after the momentum is built, but before it shifts the torque converter gets gummed up after the shift and thus the "Jerking" shift. The stock converter has no stall, so instantly once the shift is made you are turning the motor at X RPM's, and turning the motor with momentum instead of combustion. It will not just instantly break your car, but over time it will chew up your tranny. Its similar to downshifting into a gear so its close to redline without giving it WOT. You shouldnt do it, you can, but shouldnt. It forces the RPM's of the car to be turned by momentum instead of combustions which puts significant strain on parts of the car that werent meant to deal with that!

Example:

When the car is hauling ass you break 60 in second. So you shift to third and dont give it gas at all. Thats still 4k in 3rd, 4k being forced by the momentum of the car not the combustion of the motor. I hope that example kinda explains it better.

Bottom line, dont do it. If you want your car to last, dont do it. Dont push the car past 3-4k daily. If you keep your car in the sweet spot, it takes less toll on the car. Less toll on the car=longer it will last.
