The alternator charged before, but after my teiming belt job I'm not getting a charge. Is there anything I can check? I mean, if the belt is connected, the alternator should charge right?

Alternators aren't designed to charge your battery, they are meant to mantain a charge. If you use it to charge it, it will go out very soon, if it hasn't already.

They aren't designed to charge a dead battery, but they do charge batteries.

The battery I have is fully charged off my trickle charger, but the alt still isn't charging. I'm trying to figure out why.

I find it unlikly that the pulley isn't spinning inside of the belt without letting out a god awful shreak but you might check that anyways. Check the connections at the alternator to make sure you didn't mess something up while waving a wrench around under there. Or you could just drive to Sears and have them test your battery and alt for like $10.

Thanks guys. This is what I'm planning on doing, but I do have a few questions maybe you can answer:

-checking the alternator fuse (located in cabin or in the engine bay?)
-checking the wires that are connected to the alt (how many are there, and where do they connect to?)
-checking the terminals?
-checking the connections to the battery
-testing the battery

the pulley to the alternator is connected just fine...if the battery IS shot, shouldn't it still read 14v when the alt is running? how can i test the alt/battery seperate?

I heard you can can disconnect the battery and see if the car will die after a short time if it does its the alternator.
look it up ,its somewhere in the forums.
