rattleing/clunking noise on rear fwd 1gen tsi

yea this noise is driving me crazy. it goes away when the brakes are applied. it sounds like a ratteling sound when im not on the brakes but when i hit the brakes it goes away. I noticed that when i took off my wheel i could move the rotor side to side on the hub, like it was a little bit loose, im not sure if this could be the cause. i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas before i start buying all new parts. btw its coming from the rear passengerside . thanks in advance for any info.

The brake rotor is held in place by the wheel being bolted on. With the wheel bolted on and off the ground you can try hitting the sidewall of the tire and see if you hear the sound. If you grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to rock it, do the same with the front and rear of the tire. If you feel any play then in all probability it's the bearing needing adjustment Pull the grease cap off, remove the cotter pin and adjust to book specifications. If that doesn't solve it then you will have to pull the hub and replace both the inner and outer bearing along with the grease seal.

Let us know if the bearing is still noisy after adjustment.
