I think i am officially the first member on dsmtuners to have run over a full motorcycle helmet (not to mention the seat that it was attached to). I dont know how it fit under my car, but i was driving about 70mph on the highway with the median on one side of me and a car on the other when i saw at the last second a large object in the road, i hit it and the front of my car jumped and it got wedged under my car somewhere. I stopped (as quickly as possible from 70mph) on the left side of the highway and took a look, somehow this foot tall motorcycle helmet got wedged between my bumper and my stock sidemount intercooler. Nothing else seems to be damaged(other than the small mark it made when it hit the bumper and a ding in the frame in from of the intercooler). I'd say all in all i got off pretty lucky, though very unfortunate of a thing to happen. Is there any other kind of damage it could have done that i am unaware of? There is some spiderweb cracks around the impacted area, its hard to notice though.

P.S.-Thanks to mystery guy in the 1st gen red talon tsi for stopping and helping lift my front bumper so that i could pull the helmet out!

That sucks, I hate when people drop crap in the road and just leave it. I hit a flipping ladder on the freeway once in my old Subaru, didn't really hurt anything but it was scary. A few weeks ago someone left a truck fender in the middle of a blind corner on the rural road to my house, and I met up with it around 1 A.M. I didn't have enough time to swerve completely out of the way, so it left some nice scratches in my front bumper (there are getting to be a LOT there).

BTW scobel, I'm sure that helmet is toast, they really only design them to take one impact.

haha yeah people do leave crap in road. My friend hit a table in his mustang gt. It was sitting right in the middle of the road but it was night so he didn't see it until to late. Made a nice hole in the front of his car.

Actually the helmet is okay, it got drug under my car from 70mph till i could stop, so it wore the plastic in the back, i couldve put it on and used it if i wanted to...minus the windshield thing or whatever. That was a hardcore helmet...i looked at it today, barely messed up my bumper at all, its like i knicked it and went right over it.

I agree it sucks when stuff gets left in the road but technically if you are driving too fast to miss a large stationary object in the road I think it's 100% your responsability.
I haul ass when I am in the mountains but you always have to expect the worse around every corner. I have encounterd logs, boulders, deer, foxes, rivers, dead cars and a whole bunch of other stuff in the middle of the road and on blind corners. You just have to expect it to be there.
Denji I am glad you and your car are okay but how the hell did you miss a helmet in the middle of the road?
Toshiro Damn man how do you miss a ladder?

Hmm, I think that beats the tumbleweeed that I hit a couple of weeks ago in my wrx in the rain. It was 3 feet high and about 6+feet wide. I was a downpour, low visibility, at night, and I was going way to fast. WRC delusions I think(Carlos Sainz got nothing on me on the freeway :p ).

If there was a head in the helmet you should have kicked the head's ass :D

Umm... NO the helmet is NOT ok. Helmets are designed to be replaced every 3 years any way just from normal use. The styrofoam inside the thing gets damaged from litttle bumps all the time. and if you ever hit one hard as in dumping a bike you should replace it. I had just bought a new Arai for $750 when I LowSided at Laguna Seca at 165 mph. Helmet was only 1 week old so I thought it might have survived. Sent it in to Arai for a check and sure enough it was toast.

Needless to say if you run one over with a car..... Trash!

That said, damn that sucks. I would be pissed if I hit one.
