Hello all, new to the board and to the dsm world.

I recently purchased a 92 Laser AWD for use during ice racing and rallyx events. I am curious to see if anyone on this board participates in such activites and any dsm specific problems i should be on the look out for. (ex. the oil line in front of the engine cross member)

Car is mechanically stock and rides on KYB AGX's with "rally" springs installed (Stock spring rate but taller giving the car the 4x4 look).

I look forward to sharing my experiences and video's with this group for all to enjoy.

Yeah, I'd like to see that stuff too. Speaking of video's Greg, do you ever tape your races? Cause I wouldn't mine watching that as well. :)

The class I will be running in is a stock street legal unstudded-4wd class. All door to door racing with no contact allowed. The 2wd people are able to use street stud or screw type tires while the 4wd and awd people cannot due to the increased speeds resulting from traction and studs. Same modification ruleset from SCCA soloII applies to the SL classes.

Next year the plan is to completely cut the car and cage it to run in the menard class. Menard's are the ULTIMATE in an ice racing tire which provides damn near the traction of a full racing slick on ice. In this class speeds of up to 120 mph is possible depending on the course.

Nokian Hakka Q's 205/65/14's is the tire that is going on the ice and studded hakka 1's for use with rallyx.

If any of you people live in the northeast and feel like trying your hand at such an event visit www.icerace.com for directions and more info. I can't wait to get started.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I've seen first hand how good those Nokian tires are, if I got enough snow around here I'd have a set.

Cool!!! We look forward to some pictures, video, and a Race Diary or two. :D

I've been building 2x 2Gs for ice racing capabilities for some customers. One for rubber to ice and one for stud to ice. I can't wait to see them in action come Jan 21/22.

This one goes through my home town in Northern Michigan. Check out some of the photo's they're hard to spot since everyone takes photo's of the evo's and sti's but there are normally alot of dsms there, mostly 1g's.

Well ill be at sno-drift. I purchased the dsm with a buddy of mine for snow drift who also happens to be a sweep vehicle captain for Sno-Drift. So if you happen to be spectating the event and you see the med vehicle followed by a green 4wd tacoma and a silver 4wd tacoma then thats me....following in the silver tacoma of course with NC plates.

My main purpose in going is for the oppertunity to slap travis pastraina on the back of the head for backing his porsche supercup car into the tire barrier at the USGP last year in a bonehead move. Well maybe I won't do that but I can at least bug him for tickets to the garage area for this years USGP.

Yeah I didn't find out the dates until I had already scheduled my florida vacation. I leave just before the sno-drift gets started. It's a ton of fun though, its always nice to see dsms running around town here since there are so few of them. Glad to see someone else getting into it though.

First event of the season was today and i must say it... WHAT A BLAST!!!!

First heat i finished 3rd...if i didnt get stupid i would have held on to second.
2nd heat i finished 4th and it was pretty tough competition out there.

I do have video that is in its raw form now and i will try to encode it and post it somewhere for the world to see. The 2nd heat did last like 12-15 minutes.

Can't wait to do it again.

Cool, do a writeup also, for us to read. ;)

I've done a couple rally-x events in mine and it wasn't much fun. Both courses were so tight that I was first gear all the time. First gear is no power < 3k rpms, then I hit 3k and spin all 4 wheels even barely cracking the throttle open. Getting the engine rebuilt and having it tuned for low end power instead of top end this time. Hopefully it'll be more fun next season!

Anyone racing one of these out in Colorado?

Looking to get my car back together and go ice racing :)

I have been to some of the ice races here near toronto, and they are just so much fun.

I can't remember where I found this picture.. its been on my computer for a long time. I think it's pretty cool though. Thought I'd share it.
