I have a Free engine from my 1g that I bought about 3 years ago. To make a long story short the guy I bought the car from said the trans was locked up. I never investigated what the real problem was because I had a good trans and engine in my car I got T boned in,all I need was the shell. So now I want to try to get this engine going after sitting for 3 years. Im starting this trek on getting my other engine built. Anything I should do before starting this engine? This is a free engine I know nothing about. By looking at it looks to be rebuilt at some point because it has a balance shaft delete, and a warrenty overheat sticker on the head. It had a little bit of oil in it when I drained it yesterday and the oil didnt look bad at all. I cant remember if i drained the rest of it when i swapped the engines. Its on a stand right now so I plan on putting oil back into the crank and also soaking the cams and then putting some down the cylinder walls and then hand crank it. Is there anything else you guys recommend doing?

Take the timing belt off and run the oil pump with a drill to prime the motor. There isn't going to be much oil left anywhere after sitting that long!

ive been seeing a lot about the drill for it... could you direct me a link to a proper drill to use? i will be doing a rebuild myself and if disconnecting the p[lug so theres no spark is bad id like to do it the proper way

Any drill with halfway decent torque will work. You just need to throw on a 14mm socket and let it rip. (I believe that's the size, don't quote me.)
