I went to get a radio installed in my 96 eclipse (I bought the car without a radio.) So the guy goes out to my car and says "dude, youre missing your mounting bracket." and im just like what

Here are some pictures of my radio housing I guess its called:

I can see that there are holes at the top of the bracket but there is non for the bottom? So, I was wondering if anyone new any sites to buy the mounting bracket from, all I seem to find is the plastic housing for the radio. I haven't been to any junk yards yet, but I do plan on going to see what I can get

Yeah there's a big plastic frame that goes there to which the oem stereo brackets mount. I really doubt you're going to find that on any shelves. I'd give JNZ a call first, and if he says they're out it's time for junkyard diving.

With that not there though to what is your center console mounting?

I do have the big plastic piece. I went ahead and screwed in the top bracket but the two bottom holes are left without screws because I have no place to screw it onto.

Here is a picture with it on:

You can see that I have no place to put a screw to mount the bottom. Hopefully you can see what I mean now.

I guess my real question is, is there not supposed to be a place where I can screw into the bottom holes? or is this what its supposed to look like?

If there is another plastic frame you are talking about, let me know because this is the only plastic piece that was in the radio "hole" when I bought the car. and I believe it is somewhat broken as well

Dang, I appreciate you looking, I guess I can stroll around for some on the internet and drive around to the local junkyards to see if I can find any 2g dsms. I'm gonna pull out my manual too see exactly what they look like, the diagram you linked is somewhat hard to read. I appreciate that as well

You could also call up miller imports or look in the classifieds for a part out. I know there is someone right now in the classifieds that has like 5 parts cars. Good luck with your search.

Hey, i had the same issue recently, bought a double din screen, and i realized the plastic was broken off... So instead of buying another dash i just grabbed some sheet metal took some measurement, and just made a bracket that bolts up to the radio receiver and to the metal bracket that's in your pictures. it held up just fine, maybe give it a shot cant hurt to try;)

Hmm, oh well. I have no experience with sheet metal or anything. So, my question to you would be how much would you charge me if I had you make the bracket you made? if you have the time, and if it wouldn't be a bother! But if you could make that fore me that would be much much appreciated. or if you have a diagram with the measurements and that good stuff I could have someone around my area make one for me.

I get what youre saying about having the plastic piece. the sides of the brackets would mount up to the plastic piece im assuming? and since I don't have it, I have no use for the brackets I just purchased? what if I had someone weld the brackets on? do you think that would work? I have a couple of friends that can weld, that's why I ask

You got it, that piece wont help you, i would love to make you a bracket, unfortunately no two cars or situations are the same. And i don't know what you are installing and ect..... If you can get it welded, by all means go for it i use sheet metal ALOT since i get for free, and i have no experience welding outside of copper/Ac lines, so i just use a drill press and bolts to repair things i cant weld.

hmm, that's understandable. I think im going to go ahead and not cancel the order and see if I can get a friend to weld it into place. or ill just put the radio in with only the top part mounted on.

as I was typing I simulated a problem in my head with welding it.

That problem was, if I get it welded in, the angles of the brackets might not line up and that would just screw up the whole project I think...decisions, decisions.:hmm:

I would ask if you could take a picture of the bracket you made so I could get a better understanding, but I would hate for you to have to take out the din and what not
