Changed to a EVO 3 16g, and a 2 row rad off eBay, also a breather on the valve cover... Got everything together ran the car, had no issues except it would stall when I came to a stop. Did boost though, and never go hot according to the stock gauge. All the sudden it shut off. When it started again I made it 50 feet an the upper rad hose blew apart. Sounded like a shot gun.
Idk what is going on. Any ideas

How old were the hoses? Since the fluid is all out now, I would first check the t stat by seeing if it opens in boiling water and then proceed to do a leak down test.

My guess would be a faulty hose or a the radiator cap not fitting the new radiator right. Maybe the seat where the cap seals to is close to the cap and raising the pressure that it takes to open the cap.

I'll check the thermostat , but that hose BLEW up . Seems to me it would take a lot of pressure to blow a hose up like that. If I blew a head gasket would it cause pressure In The cooling system?

Yes a blown head gasket will increase pressure in the cooling system. The cap should release anything over what the cap is rated for though.

my moneys on thermostat. it sounds completely sealed tho which is weird. not unheard of, but strange still. and you should have a ton of fluid in ## reservoir if the cap is functioning properly. it should open at 13-16lbs(just a guess) somewhere in that area and allow fluid to go into the reservoir

Sounds like the cap deff isn't working if it was able to build pressure to blow that hose apart. I'll try the cap an thermostat . There wasn't water in the oil, But I suppose checking compression isn't a bad idea either

I've had a radiator hose blow catastrophically as you describe. It could be from a manufacturing defect. Once the hose develops a rip, the sudden rush of pressure and flow will tear the rest open quickly. Think: balloon.
