Holy shit I love those cars. Problem is that everything in the ####in world rattles and the plastic is terrible, but the LT1 is awesome. The engine is the only thing that holds together. Id have to just go with the LS1 firebirds tho. Those are so pretty.
 
Just to clear something up about the WRX trannies, the 20-03's are very problematic when it comes to gear strength. The late 03/up WRX's have stronger/wider gears, this makes things a little better, but if you abuse them they will still break.

If you want to stay with the Mitsu platform, I'd say Evo. If you don't really care either way, go with an 04-05 STi.

I'd stay away from the SRT, but that's just for personal reasons. I just don't care for them much.
 
Personnal preference is SRT-4. I had a new 05 before my talon. Had to get rid of it cause of payments, but i loved it. I test drove a 03 WRX and it is small. If your a bigger person or tall, it feels cramped. Pedals are to close and not much room. SRT-4 is faster stock than wrx, too.

The Trans Am GTA did not have an lt1 motor. They had an l98 which was tuned port injection. They didn't put the lt1 in them until 1993, the beginning of the fourth generation.
 
since im about to buy a gsx, i voted for WHY THE HELL DID YOU SELL YOUR GSX..

BUT...

SRT-4 is the way to go....my bro just put down 443whp on his srt-4 with a kinetic motorsport gt3076r turbo kit. Hes spent only about 3g's and has that much horespower already
 
wow good responces guy thx. um sorry but that legacy GT doesnt look too good and any saab looks like :barf: yea i was pretty set on getting a SRT-4 but in 3 years it wont be worth anything i guess and the interior sucks. i am pretty tall and was cramped in my gsx. im gonna go test drive a srt-4 and wrx hopefully soon.
negative on the LS1 i dont want a LS1 their too easy to make fast and are also a 2-door
the only way i could get a 2004-2005 STI or 2003+ evo would be if i could find a repo'd one. i dont do loans therefor i wont buy anything i dont have the money for

You're right. My friend has a GTA and swears up and down that its an LT1. I'll correct him.

Do you want the thing to haul ass?

If so get the srt-4

The WRX and M3 will cost a lot of money to get into the 12's whereas the srt-4 is cheap raw power. I know people who have ran a 13.6 all stock.

yea i just found out they're not 4-door but they got a decent back seat for stuff. isnt they're a super charger kit for the m3?
 
They have a supercharger and turbo kit for the car. How much money are you willing to put into the car though? The decent supercharger kit for the car is 10k not including install.

ok n\m 10k for supercharger kit. OMG . idn but still getting a N\A car again ill save on gas. does anyone know the gas mileage for the M3?

Friend of mine ran 12.9 with just exhaust. Pretty damn good IMO. He does have sick driving skills though. [Legacy GT]
 
things that confuse me...

DSM owners talking down about the WRX trans, when the only people who break them are 100hp over stock, or suck at driving/dropping the clutch.

SRT4... The car was so bad the company cut production after 3/4 years... Plus, they have chrysler transmissions. If you can find me a worse tranny made by another company (design wise) let me know.

SRT4... they're ugly, they break more often than DSMs, and while you can bolt on some parts and put down decent dyno numbers, getting decent track times is much harder. even with the extra LSD option.




Legacy GT for the W. plus the new ones come with a 6 speed... (yay.. more cars for me to steal my MT from when I blow up my SVXes AT...)
 
Go with an LS1 trans am or camaro ... I own a 87 GTA the first year for them they came with the L89(350)TPI with 700R4's there where no 5spds and it runs pretty damn good it has a shift kit and mild cam... they also put 305 TPI's in them.

Oh man what an idiotic statement! They didnt stop making the srt-4 because sales were low. Actually they had only thought that they would sell 4000 of the cars when they actually ended up selling 26000. And its not like the srt-4 is gone for good, the only reason there are no 2006 srt-4s is because they are ending the neon platform. The Caliber srt-4 will be here soon with roughly 300hp for under 22k.

You call the srt-4s ugly but thats personal opinion. The only srt's I have seen break are harshly beat on, just like our cars. I doubt he wants to get any lower than 11s with this car and like I said 12s are easily attainable. A stage 3 srt-4 will haul balls.

Before you use a big word like ignorant, maybe you should learn what it means first.

Ugly is a personal preference.

Where did I say they stopped making the SRT-4 because sales are low. I'm saying, there are 3 or 4 years of teh cars... how much aftermarket support do you think they will get? even if the new srt4s use the same engine, the layout will be different, the parts will need to be different. Think about it, how many Starion parts do you see out there compared to DSM and evolution?

DSMs are known as "unreliable" for the most part. Now I know this comes from people who really don't know what they're doing with them, however that is on a 7-16 year old car. the SRT4s are NEW! and yet they still break. all the time. The engine is decently strong, but the trans is shit, the non lsd axle is worse, plus your warranty is voided the day you put an aftermarket filter on. (holy crap and I thought Mitsu was bad)

I'm not going into this further, but let's just say I've worked on a couple, and know a guy that got his money back on one through the IL "lemon" laws. I would not TOUCH one of those with a ten foot pole, and if someone gave me one, I wouldn't sell it to anyone I've seen before. the SRT-4 (especially the 03, supposedly quite a few improvements since then) was a hack job of a car at best.
 
if your thinking about getting an m3 wouldnt you be concerned about gas mileage? Not to mention higher insurence, its a coupe, and more $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the maintanence for it. m3 doesnt have that much more interior room than a gsx. looks pretty pimp though if drop a nice set of rims on it. Subbies are nothing special, and if you get luccy enough you can find one that wont backfire when your on throttle.
