420A Quickest way to remove engine and install different one.

Okay so I've begun the process of removing one my 420a engines from an automatic eclipse. This engine will be swapped out with another 420a eclipse engine which the car is a manual transmission. First off, is it easier to seperate the engine and tranny and just pull the engine or pull both out of the car?. I want this to the quickest easiest process cause I have a few engines I need to swap out. If I could just get a list on everything I need to do to remove this engine and then reinstall. I first secured the engine with a hoist, then unbolted the motor mounts and bellhousing bolts. Undo all wiring connectors obviously. Then i dropped the transaxle through the bottom of the car while the engine is hoisted. After that, pull engine out.

You can pull motor and trans all at once if you want. You just need a engine load leveler so you can get the angle needed!

I like pulling both the engine and trans out as a single unit, that way you can clean up the trans before re-installation, and you wont have to worry about muscling/angling the trans to bolt it back up to the new [or rebuilt]motor, it also can be kinda dangerous if you don't have a transmission jack.

Easiest way I have found is to remove them both at the same time. So first remove air intake, axels, unclip all wiring harnesses connected to the motor, also disconnect coolant lines and what not. I find it easier to install them all at once but yes you will need an engine leveler. Doing it with them both bolted to one another I could easily swap a motor out and in, in a day.

Thanks everyone for your responses. But what is the purpose for removing the transaxle exactly, more clearance? Also if anyone could just tell me the locations for the motor mounts. I can find one on the passenger side panel in front of the strut tower but that's it. Thanks, really appreciate it.

Just easier to get things in and out! You will have to separate and drop the trans to get motor out on its own. It's way easier to pull them together and separate outside of engine bay. And there are 4 motor mounts. 1 on top of trans, 1 by timing belt motor side, then the 2 roll stop mounts are where the trans and engine meet on either side.
