I've got a 95 talon ESi. I'm tired of my check engine light being on. I've read the code and it looks like my rear O2 sensor has gone bad. seems like it happened soon after I installed my catback. anyway here's my question:

i've looked on ebay to see what i could find. found a couple for around $20 that are used. not such a good idea i don't think because someone could screw me over and just be selling a dead one like mine. also i saw a few "universal" O2 sensors that should work with my car for closer to $25, and they mention the words new and used in the ad LOL. so i don't know about that either. I don't know a whole lot about O2 sensors and i don't really want to spend a large chunk of change on an expensive one if something i mentioned above will do just fine.

what are your opinions and/or advice?

also, a friend in my local car club here at school has a brand new bosch-13127 O2 sensor that he never used. can i cut the wires off of it and splice it into mine? should the wires be the same?

Try www.oxygensensor.com.

They range from $51 to $65 new. Might want to do some more searching to find out how different brands work. The Walker models were $51 and $56 while the Denso model was $65.

Have you tried taking your car to Autozone to have the code cleared (for free)? Or you can disconnect your battery for a few minutes, too, to clear the code (but then you have to reset your radio and clock and whatnot). It might have been a one-time CEL that won't repeat once it's cleared (i.e. your rear O2 sensor may be fine).

hey thanks for the reply. i've seen both brands walker and denso, as well as bosch and a few others. that price range though is about my cutoff, i can afford to drop 60 on a new one but i'd rather not if i don't have to.

yes i've reset my system by disconnecting the battery three times, every time the check engine light has come right back on.

and what i said about my friend with the bosch one, his has 2 white wires, 1 grey, and 1 black. i'm like 80% sure mine has the same wire combination, and he said if i buy him a 6-pack of blue moon i can have the O2 sensor, LOL, sounds like damn good deal to me! it's brand new, he'll practically give it to me, i think it fits - does that sound plausible? i just don't know which white is which when i splice the wires!

Or you can do that. Most people do that ruin them with no cat. Lots of people are doing it on here and there really aren't any negative affects. That sensor just lets you know the cat. converter if working.
