Alrighty well i just recently had every single aspect of my car, turbo included, checked out at my friends garage. Im currently running 550cc injectors, dejon intake and ic pipes and a 3.5 inch thermal racing catback. I was told the fins in the turbo are starting to wear and not to take it over 5k rpms. So obviously i need to replace it, im planning on the 16g upgrade and getting the safc neo with a boost controller and fpr, will the safc be enough of a tuning tool to run this or do i definately need dsmlink. Im sure everyone will recomend it anyway but, i just need to know will the safc work safely and accurately enough for maybe a few months till i can actually get dsmlink in and installed. Thats if i really will even need it at all. Im also planning on the evo 3 mani and o2 housings. Thanks for the time.

Dsmlink if you can afford it. Or you need a pocketlogger to use your piggyback system.

Is the pocket logger really 100% necessary and if so for what reasons just trying to get everything worked out.

What are you currently using to tune it for the 550 injectors?

EPROM tuning is cheap and extremely effective (and easy).

Well you need some type of logger. I prefer TMO Log on a laptop.

Pocket logger is just a palm pilot with a dsm logger software (either freeware or a couple ones you have to buy) that is hooked into your cars obd port through a cable that can either be made or bought.

If you do a search you'll find alot of information and there are some tech guides on how to tune with one. And it is necessary to monitor knock and timing as your tune your car with a SAFC. :)

I really don't see what going over 5 grand on the engine would have to do with saving on the turbo. Once you're at full boost at around 3 grand, the turbo is already going to be spinning most likely over 100,000rpms. If you need to take it easy on your turbo, the boost needs to be turned down, not run less engine rpms. Someone may be trying to sell you stuff for no good reason other than to get your money.

Depends on your goals, if your planning on keeping your 550's then go for a B16g. And also I'm going to recommend dsmlink. I went down the same path your going once or twice and have found I spent about the same on an SAFC/Logger/Wideband as I would have with a dsmlink v3, and got only a fraction of the features and reliability dsmlink has to offer, I know it sucks to throw out $600+ at once but just do it!! :)

I would recommend EPROM tuning because it is actually cheaper than a dumb SAFC, and you can do anything you want with the tune.

If you don't have an EPROM ECU, you need one which is a couple hundred but other than that it's really cheap to do (with link, you need the EPROM ECU plus the cost of link, so you're talking $800+.)

I think they can socket a 1g non eprom ecu to work with link for a price that is less than buying an eprom ecu.

:ohdamn: Oops, I assumed he had a eprom for some reason. I agree, SAFC's suck anyway I have tried them before you start pulling a lot of airflow your timing will be hard to stabilize in the right area.

alright it will have to be link in that case but the problem is i wont be able to get that for another month or so due to some financial investments. will the tmo log and the safc work well enough to get by on for that time?
