Just a question, doing my headgasket and still have stock 450cc injectors, they are going bad, just wondering if I can swap them out to my AFI 1050cc injectors that I have. Was going to install once I get my turbo, but was wondering if I can install.

I have dsmlink and am wondering if all I need to do is set the global % and deadtiming to get them to work properly? Or just calculate using dsmlink?

I also have a fuelab afpr I will be installing since everything is apart right now.

You can do that to get the car up and running.

Run a log as soon as you can to make sure your AFRs are good and use DSMlink to adjust as needed.

Not sure if my AFRs will be good, don't have the wideband installed yet. But I have been running rich.

Just want to be sure if I install the injectors, they will act like my 450s and have smooth idle, not rich, etc. As if they were new 450s. Or is there something else that needs to be involved? Just seems kind of simple if that was the only thing needed to change.

I'm not familiar with those injectors. What were you planning to do with global and deadtime, 55% and 330-345? (On V2 dead time must be divisible by 15, i dont know about other versions, V2 is what i use and it's the only one i have experience with)

I would think those settings would get things decent, maybe a touch richer than you are now. You should have no issues with rough idle or running too rich. You can run as big an injector as you like as long as you calibrate for it.

As a precaution, set the knock count for your engine light to 1 or 2, just to make sure you dont end up a little lean.

EDIT: Just ran the numbers, Global at 57%, try 330 for deadtime to get you close, and follow the userguide to make sure it's right.

Deadtime:

"While there is a way to calculate what this value should be, a
trial and error approach tends to work best. Use the long-term fuel trim (SelectedLTFT)
value calculated by the ECU as your guide. The following outlines a good procedure for
getting the dead time right for your setup.

1. Car must be fully warmed up then must be operated at cruise for about 10 minutes
followed by idle for 5 minutes to get stable LTFT values.

2. Compare the LTFT at idle and cruise. You want both to be right about zero (+/-
5% or so).

3. If the two are about the same, dead time setting is good.

4. If they are equal but non-zero, adjust the global setting.

5. If idle LTFT is more positive than cruise LTFT, increase the dead time, less,
decrease."

Thanks that is very helpful, I read about the LTFT just was never sure if you adjust deadtime by 1 value each time you do this? Same with the global setting 1% at a time? What about STFT?

By the way my 1050cc AFI injectors are modified Delphi ball and seat injectors with better spray pattern, comparison same as FIC injectors.

Here is what they state if it helps with anything:

Delphi Low Impedance Injector. Set of 4. Delphi EV1 Low Imp Injector After Market Computer Recommended all Injectors are Checked @ 43.5psi and Flow matched in sets of 4 to 1 & of each other Injectors are Machined TOP and BOTTOM for a No Hassel Installation

Like i said, i use V2, V3 probably offers fine tuning for deadtime by comparison.

With V2 you have to adjust deadtime in sets of 15 (315, 330, 345, etc).

I'm almost certain 330 will be the best setting for you, but you should check to make sure. If not 330, it will be 345.

You should probably adjust global by 1% at a time. Global is usually fine with the formula to calculate it based on injector size. Set it at -57% and you should be all set, but if you do the check and it ends up a little off, adjust and recheck.

Ah ok perfect, didn't know deadtime adjusts in sets of 15 and I use v2 as well, just using the v3 software. Appreciate the help, ill let you know how it goes!

Sounds good :hellyeah:

Just an update:

Just finished turbo install, 1050cc injector install, and will install supra pump soon, All I would have to do to start car and make it run nicely is adjust the global and deadtime for 1050ccs right? Also I came up with -57% for global, when calculated but 0 for deadtime, how did you happen to get 330?

Thanks again!
