Ok have some questions that have been in the back of my head since i was getting into cars , warning you they might sound stupid.


Why is back pressure good for N/A cars?


Could you make a adjustable wastegate , where could just flapper open when you wanted from inside the car?


When you have cruise control on how does the car slow down going down a hill, brakes or does the trans switch into nuetral?


Do you really need to buy all new tires when you destroy one , on a awd car?


why not just hook up a mini air compressor to the intake ?


Is there really performance when it comes to BOV's , dont they just need to work and not leak?

How do you increase the stroke of a motor ?


Does that stuff that seals compression in your engine work?


Could you hook up fans to the back of your intercooler , that would suck in air faster or would the air just come in faster without the fans?

Why is there a need for a ISC motor , couldnt you just have the throttle open a little at idle ?

Yes, not leaking and release speed/volume (not audbile volume) is BOV performance.

Increase the throw of the crank.

What? Don't put shit in your engine.

You could, but a properly ducted radiator fan setup would be better, and moreover when you really need air flowing through your intercooler, you're moving anyway.

The ISC C's the IS by varying the amount of air bypassing the throttle plate based on various conditions that could cause a low/high idle or even stall under normal circumstances.

Ok.. here's what I could kind-of answer.

Why is back pressure good for N/A cars?

In short, backpressure if good for N/A cause because these engines need to get this exhaust out fast, and the backpressure keep the air velocity up; thus it moves faster. Granted, a larger exhaust on most N/A cars WILL help you gain power.... As long as its not too big!



When you have cruise control on how does the car slow down going down a hill, brakes or does the trans switch into neutral?

Cruise control is basically controlled through the throttle position sensor, speed sensors, and vacuum. The speed sensors monitor the car's speed, and the ECU will change the throttle based on the car's speed. Vacuum makes the system work, well vacuum makes a car work in general.


Do you really need to buy all new tires when you destroy one , on a awd car?

Yes; in most cases. I'm sure if you ruin one tire when the others are all pretty new still, you could get away with it. You run the risk of tearing up gears due to differences in tire sizes.

Yup. "performance" BOV's tend to be stronger and can handle more pressure.

How do you increase the stroke of a motor ?

A few things... you need to consider the combination of the crank throw, with the rod length, piston compression height, and piston deck clearance needs to be the same as the block deck height. IIRC, it's the crank and rod length that will give you the increase.

It does, to a certain extent. But it will never "fix" the problem.

Are you talking about additional fans in front of the radiator fans?

The motor does this. It will keep the throttle open to a pre-dertimeated RPM set in the ECU.

You better be a millionaire!! Since most of that stuff would have to be custom. Also, you'd have to research the elemental properties of titanium to actually "see" if it would serve as a better material in certain applications that other options. Most times you'll find that the other materials work better based on what kind of loads and forces and temperatures it is exposed to.


Does the SRT4 really have the same block as a 4g63?

NO. Completely different engines. The SRT has more in common with the 420A.


Which is better the evo 16g or the stock turbo on a srt4?

The SRT turbo is similar in size to the 16g. However, the stock SRT turbo's "hot side" is integrated into the manifold. This is something that cannot be interchanged.


Can you buys ecus at autozone?

Yup.


What is overdrive?

Overdrive is a gear that was integrated into transmissions as a "cruising" gear for less noise and gas mileage. What it means is that instead of a gear reduction, like in the lower gears.. the ratio is over-driven, i.e. less that 1:1 allowing for lower rpm-operation of the engine. This is hard to describe.


What is the advantage of having a cast iron block with an aluminum head?

When this first came onto the scene, it wasn't an advantage due to head cracking, premature head gasket failures and such. This was because of the thermal expansion/contraction properties are different between steal and aluminum. Over time, the manufacturers figured out how to better control this with the use of things like a multi-layer steel headgasket to allow for better sealing. The main advantage is that aluminum is lighter than steel; it also dissipates heat better.

Completely off topic, but the backpressure question reminded me that the Mustang needs headers and an exhaust. It's just too quiet, and the exhaust leak it developed is rather annoying. tick tick tick tick tick tick. Ghey. Needs to be more like "vroomm vromm..lub, lub, lub, lub lub" Wait.. that's more like if it was cammed.
