my 2G GS-T is completely stock.
my stock turbo went out so i bought a big 16G with the additional "kit" needed for install off ebay.

if i bolt this up right now and drive it for a few days before getting a boost gauge and BOV will it be fine ?? i wont run it hard or anything i just need to know if it can be driveable until i get to where i need to be to buy/install the other parts. (2 hours away)

Greddy type S or 1G BOV ?? i really dont have a lot of money to spend but should i pay the extra and get the greddy or just get the 1G? which is easier to install ? :dsm:

should be safe to drive. dont let it spool for too long.

if you are completely stock, suggest you get a boost gauge & boost controller.

nothing bad will happen if u install the 16g, dont push it so hard and ull be fine. and if u want to save some money i would go with a 1g BOV, just crush it if u need to and they will hold fine to 20lbs.

If I were you I'd wait until you got a boost controller and a boost gauge.. you've already spent lots of money. You can find a JoeP MBC for $45 shipped, and a used boost gauge for ~$30. Then you would KNOW for a fact that you'd be running right, not simply guessing and possibly damage the turbo in the long run.
As far as BOVs go, a 1g BOV would work just fine for you. If you still have the stock UICP (upper intercooler pipe), you're going to need a flange for either BOV.. after you get the flange, the BOV is a simple bolt-on.

He shouldn't push it at all without knowing how it's running.. and he's also got a long ways to go before 20psi, forget about crushing at the moment ;)

where can i find a "flange"?

also, are 16G turbos set at a certian boost level ? what can i expect to be running without using a boost controller ?

There are a bunch of flanges on there. Just FYI, the Greddy Type-S works with the 1g flange as well.

You shouldn't really expect to run a certain boost level w/o a controller.. it may spike like crazy, but no, it's not 'set' at a boost level. A friend of mine installed his b16g with a boost gauge and no controller and it would spike past 25psi OMG

hmmm... i believe youll be getting something like .5-.6 bar
dont hold me to it... lots of variation.
you dont have anything to read your boost, if you have any leaks you wont hold boost and you wont even know. if the boost spikes you wont know...
suggest you invest in some mbc and gauge. cant even boost too much on the stock bov...

for cheaper replacement for t25, you could of gotten the 14b.. if you are this tight on your budget, 14b+hackers install kit+upic+bov = to a brand new b16g w/ install kit.

Yes, it will be driveable.

To be safe, I would route your wastegate actuator boost source line straight form the outlet of the turbo, rather than going through the boost control solenoid or a boost controller. This will make certain that you can't boost above 8-10PSI if your wastegate actuator works properly.

Once you get a gauge and your BOV (you need both first!) then you can reroute your lines through the BCS or boost controller.

If you just get a gauge and not the BOV and up the boost, you'll be overspinning your turbo due to the boost leak, which can and will damage your turbo.

um.. if you just let the wastegate open on its own.. it wont boost past 9-10 psi on a stock system.. remember the whole car is STOCK.. you are not going to over boost on a stock system when you just let the wastegate open on its own. IF you had an aftermarket exhaust you need to worry.. with stock everything just throw the turbo on there and dont worry about it. It will be fine. I know I did it with my 16g. I had stock exhaust and didnt hook up any boost control it. Boost stayed at 9-10 psi.. never any more.

Thanks for putting it into English for jfarm :thumb:
jfarm-- go to vfaq.com and look for 'BCS free mod'.. it will show you where your BoostControlSolenoid is (underneath the air filter). When you hook up a MBC you'll take the BCS out completely, so he's saying for now you can route your boost source line straight to the turbo instead of going through the BCS since you don't have a boost controller.

Spray the hell out of your turbo to manifold bolts (if you havent already removed it) with PB blaster or a rust penetrating fluid for a couple days in adavance a couple times a day while cool.. that way you wont break bolts and it will make removale of the old turbo 10x easier..

ps .. PB blaster and penetrating fluid are like $2 a spray can .. if you use it .. dont be scared if you see it smoking white its just your engine burning off the residue ..(thats if your engine is being turned on and off .. i switched turbos with a good 14b still on my car)

I Instaled A 16g Withe No Problems I Have A Boost Guage But No Controler I Was Toled As Long As You Use The Stock Boost Silinoid Youl Be Fine And Its Ben Months And No Problems
